Having three experienced and talented players to work off each other is a luxury not many teams have going into next season.

Here are a few of the top trios to watch in 6A:

Shawnee Mission Northwest:

[player_tooltip player_id="891904" first="Damare" last="Smith"], 5-foot-10 guard, 2022:

[player_tooltip player_id="1076261" first="Landon" last="Wagler"], 6-foot-4 forward, 2022:

[player_tooltip player_id="1080177" first="Malik" last="Oatis"], 5-foot-11 guard, 2023:

Led by third-team 6A star Smith, the Cougars return a nice collection of talent for next season. Smith is a talented ball handler and runner of the point who can score. Wagler brings size and scoring ability from inside and out. And Oatis is an athlete ready for a much bigger role. He can push the ball end to end and is a nightmare on defense.

Free State:

[player_tooltip player_id="891899" first="Mozae" last="Downing-Rivers"], 6-foot-3 guard, 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="891903" first="Cooper" last="Jackson"], 6-foot guard, 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="952433" first="Jordan" last="Brown"], 6-foot-4 guard, 2022

The Firebirds were already loaded at guard. Now they add transfer Brown to the mix. Downing-Rivers earned third team 6A as a junior and is an athletic guard who can do it all. Jackson is a top-notch point guard who defends well and is steady and occasionally dynamic. And Brown earned third team in 5A at Basehor-Linwood last year. He’s an elite shooter and dual-sport athlete.

Derby:

[player_tooltip player_id="891900" first="Fontaine" last="Williams"], 6-foot-2 guard, 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="891908" first="Jameer" last="Clemons"], 6-foot guard, 2022 (pictured with ball)

[player_tooltip player_id="891920" first="Amari" last="Thomas"], 6-foot-2 guard, 2022

There just aren’t enough spots to accommodate all the quality guards at Derby. Williams is the linchpin, having really established himself as one of the top scorers from the guard spot in the state. He put down 16. 3 points as a junior, and is really tough to stop on the club circuit. Clemons is a brilliant diver with the athleticism to finish above the crowd despite being just 6-foot. He accounted for 10.6 points per game on a loaded team. And Thomas added 10.2 points and 5.1 boards as a big guard.
