Northstar Hoops — Team of the Week Jan 16-21
It was a big week for hoops around the state. Between all the games on Martin Luther King Day Monday, the conference matchups and games with section implications, there were big games packed throughout the week.
Here are this week’s options for Team of the Week:
Prior Lake
The Lakers are on a nice little roll and picked up three solid wins last week. Prior Lake beat Rosemount 74-71 Tuesday then went on the road to get wins over Shakopee and New Prague. The win over New Prague was particularly impressive given how good the Trojans have been and considering they were coming off a win over Delano.
Goodhue
The Wildcats are a machine. They hadn’t yet played a game decided by less than 10 points going into the week and they were pushed by a terrific Lake City team, but the Wildcats continue to win as they beat the Tigers 60-56 in what will most likely be a Hiawatha Valley League Championship game preview.
Esko
It was a big week for the Eskomos. They opened the week with a 62-59 win over Annandale in a rematch from last year’s state tournament — which Annandale won. They lost Friday night at St. Cloud Cathedral 69-68 but rebounded with a 59-47 road win over Perham Saturday.
Bloomington Jefferson
The Jaguars bounced back from a tough prior week to pick up two good road wins. Bloomington Jefferson beat Robbinsdale Cooper 56-47 Tuesday before beating Chaska 60-57 Friday.
Central MN Christian
The Bluejays made the most of a busy week, racking up four wins between Monday and Saturday. Central MN Christian started with a 60-55 win over Dawson-Boyd in Dawson. Then they beat Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Tuesday. The big win of the week was Friday when the Bluejays beat Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 55-45 in a potential subsection final preview. They wrapped up the week with a Saturday win over Southwest MN Christian in Marshall.
