Williams is averaging 20.7 points per game to go along with a steady 3.4 assists per outing. He has helped Berea High School to a 14-3 record this season. He was named All-Tournament at The Lowe’s Classic earlier this year held at Chesnee HS. He scored 37 points for Berea High School to start the season at The Greenville County Tip-Off Tournament.
His 40% mark from behind the three-point line should ignite some attention from college coaches. He has been getting some interest from Anderson University, Southern Utah University and North Carolina Central University so far.
Selected All-Region II as a sophomore last season, he was named Pre-Season Region II Player of the Year this season by the South Carolina Coach’s Association. He was also named a Greenville County All-Star last season to add to his list of accolades.
His head coach at Berea, Jeff Maness had this to say about his star point guard, “Ray J has really grown and matured as a player this year. He’s always been talented but he’s stepped up his defensive play and has become a leader for us. On the offensive end, he’s a constant threat. He can get to the basket and finish, can shoot the 3 and has developed a really good midrange shot as well. He’s just been a great overall player for us.”
At the next level, Williams can be a strong floor leader, who knows how to score the basketball. He has a tight handle and can score with the ball in his hands or coming off the ball. He has good court vision and can find the open man in transition. He has a knack at getting hot from outside and can roll off buckets in a hurry.
Playing with The SC Raptors organization over the summer, he is forced to play against some of the best competition night in and night out. This has helped his overall game tremendously. The Raptors have sent numerous players to the college level, most noticeable, Jawun Evans of Oklahoma State. He was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year last season and is a projected first-round NBA Draft choice
