The two-day event took place from Saturday, July 3rd through Sunday, July 4th. The event featured over 40 teams ranging from 15U to 17U. It also featured several big-time shooters. In this article, we take a look at the top Snipers from the event.
Parker Gerrit 6’1 SG Roots Academy 2023 – Gerrit’s specialty is shooting it off the move. He was able to knock down shots coming off screens, and Roots had a few nice sets designed to get him open. He was nearly automatic in catch-and-shoot situations to the point opposing teams designed their entire defensive gameplan around limiting his clean looks.
Chris Parra 6’0 PG ABC 2023 – Parra is a floor-stretching PG that likes to hit the pull-up in transition. He has good mechanics on his shot, including a good release point, and textbook follow-through. Parra also possesses one of the most important traits in a shooter, which is confidence. The 6’0 floor general rarely shies away from a good look and treats every shot attempt with the expectation that the ball is going in.
Caleb Hofmeister 5’7 PG Coastal Elite 2023 – Hofmeister was one of the shortest players on the floor, yet he flashed some big-time shooting ability. He uses a deep knee bend when shooting, but can get it there accurately from college range. The CE PG, buried several wing and corner 3’s throughout the weekend, including multiple treys in a 16 point performance.
Scoty Bonar 6’0 PG Coastal Elite 2022 – Bonar is a natural shooter who displays solid mechanics. He is another shooter capable of shooting the ball off the move. Bonar came of several screens in pin-down action, showing good early shot prep, setting his feet, and firing.
Donavhan Cain 6’2 CG Midwest Tar Heels 2023 (featured image) – Cain was one of the top wings at the event, and his slashing and athleticism were dominant. What makes him a valuable prospect is the combination of the aforementioned skills and his lethal shooting ability. Cain was nearly flawless in catch and shoot action, however, it was his ability to raise up off the bounce that really caught my eye. Cain, showed some wiggle and COD ability before firing accurately from deep.
