The Breakdown Summer State Tournament was held this weekend with most of the state’s elite talent. What players stood out the most? Prep Hoops gives you our rundown.

Donavhan Cain of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’4 SG, 2022). Cain scored 17 points a game at Turner High School in Wisconsin last year. His family has moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and Cain has enrolled at CDH while playing with Howard Pulley. As was very clear yesterday, Cain is going to be a secondary scoring option for this team with good size. He can handle some but with Holloman around, the skill of Cain will be used as another point producer. He’s a big upgrade for this team.

[player_tooltip player_id="850701" first="Tre" last="Holloman"] of Cretin-Derham Hall (6’2 PG, 2022). I thought Tre looked a bit taller and certainly a big stronger than the last I saw him play. Holloman’s teams continue to win competing at a high level. Once again Tre faced some of the best teams in the state of Minnesota with a completely new group of players around him, and beat Edina, Osseo, and Shakopee. His clutch foul shooting to beat Shakopee was noteworthy but the consistently of winning is once again the biggest take home.

Daniel Ijadimbola of Benilde-St. Margaret’s (6’2 Guard, 2022). The way Daniel attacked Columbia Heights off the dribble was something I won’t soon forget. He controlled pace with his attack creating constant threes for teammates to sink (had eight assists) while also scoring four times through help defenders. Ijadimbola and [player_tooltip player_id="850737" first="Maddox" last="Alipate"] control pace as well as just about any ball handling duo out there entering next year. It’s kind of like how [player_tooltip player_id="774744" first="Eddie" last="Beeninga"] and [player_tooltip player_id="532609" first="Kody" last="Williams"] controlled pace for Wayzata last year.

[player_tooltip player_id="850715" first="BJ" last="Omot"] of Mankato East (6’8 Wing, 2022). I’ve always thought that [player_tooltip player_id="850715" first="BJ" last="Omot"] would become a high major basketball player. About a year ago I wrote an article that Demarion Watson, [player_tooltip player_id="891901" first="Ahjany" last="Lee"], and BJ would be the breakout guys and right now Omot is surely hitting that level. The way he defensively limited [player_tooltip player_id="891901" first="Ahjany" last="Lee"] and then went the other way to score his 21 points on 9 of 15 shooting was one of the performances of the day. Loved the perimeter shooting, the dribble separation, and the backdoor cuts for the scores but the defense using his length and playing with such consistent effort was just as memorable. An elite two way performance from a guy that I think could be nationally ranked after the summer.

Ryan Warren of Benilde-St. Margaret’s (6’2 Guard, 2022). Ryan Warren went at Columbia Heights off the dribble in a spirited way that had me thinking he is going to be a double figure number guy for BSM next year. The defenders weren’t able to stop the first dribble from Warren and the help defenders weren’t able to knock warren off balance as he finished through a load of contact. Looks a bit stronger and certainly more explosive going at the rim than we last saw him play.
