But for others, spring tournaments is the chance to show what they’ve got: Here are a few small school guards with a big opportunity (listed in alphabetical order):
Joel Ford, 5-foot-11 guard, Western Kansas Elite, Phillipsburg HS:
Ford is a guy who does the right things with the ball. He plays under control as the point guard, directing traffic and distributing opportunities. He has a nice combination of skills and toughness. Ford has a solid stroke from deep, and knocks down free throws.
Servando Gonzalez Servando Gonzalez 5'10" | CG Lakin | 2022 State KS , 5-foot-10 guard, Western Kansas Elite, Lakin HS:
A high-intensity guard, Gonzalez is athletic and ready to battle. He pushes the tempo in the open court and attacks the rim in transition. His toughness leads to a lot of defensive rebounds that he pushes hard up the floor. He’s a threat from deep and draws lots of fouls.
Dameion Hatten Dameion Hatten 6'3" | CG Sedan | 2022 State KS , 6-foot-3 guard/forward, Team Buddy Buckets, Sedan HS:
Hattan is a tough tweener – a physical guard and athletic forward. Hatten is adept at catching and scoring on the run, and at chasing down plays in transition. Hatten combines power and smooth athleticism and height for the position to allow him to play with big city competition.
Allen Martinez Allen Martinez 5'8" | CG Lakin | 2022 State KS , 6-foot guard, Western Kansas Elite, Lakin HS
Get ready to work when you face Martinez. He will pick you up full court and dog you end to end. The junior has a solid outside shot and good handle. He is a hard-working guard who is always ready to get out on the break and play an aggressive, up-tempo style.
Marshall Tanking, 5-foot-7 guard, Showtime, Centralia HS:
Tanking is a tough guy who doesn’t back down. He defends relentlessly and draws charges with fearlessness. He’s fast and a slick ball handler who weaves through traffic. Tanking uses his quickness to make plays at both ends.
