This weekend I watched the NYBC Team team out of Newton Massachusetts play it’s tournament. This was their Junior class team. NYBC had a good tournament and earned their programs first win. They went 2-0 on Sunday. NYBC has much improved team defense, and also moved the ball well. They did a good job moving the ball against a zone. They got the ball to the middle and looked for the baseline cutters. They showed the ability to close down the stretch with some close games. Here are some player performances from NYBC
Sam Hegarty, position G, stat line 25 points 5 steals
Sam was a big part in the NYBC big over time win. Sam did a good job scoring on offense and shot a high percentage from three going 6 for 9. Sam had 16 points in the first half and went on a 5-0 run by himself at end of the second half to help his team force overtime. Sam also played well on defense forcing 5 steals, playing aggressive on ball defenses. Sam is a guard, and in this game showed his ability to score and help lead his team to a win
Jeff Grabowski position Center stat line First game Saturday 18pts 9 rebounds second game Saturday 8 points 8 rebounds 3 blocks
Jeff did a great job finishing at the rim in the paint and through contact. He was tough to stop. Jeff played very solid defense with out fouling in the paint. Jeff did a really good job setting hard screens. Any time the other teams switched on the screens it ended up being a miss match for Jeff, and he took advantage. Jeff really controlled the paint on both ends of the floor. Jeff did a great job being the teams rim protector and also secured lots of big rebound for the team. The NYBC team has a lot of guards, and Jeff did a great job playing the center role for the team.
Paul Kazarosian Position G, notable stat stat line 18 points 4 assists
Paul had another good tournament. Paul continued to showed his aggressiveness on offense taking the ball to the basket and finishing with contact. He also shot well hit some nice mid range jumpers and threes. Paul also made good passes and moved the ball well. On defense Paul played tough on ball defense and forced some turnovers.
Sean Martin position G notable stat line 16 point 3 assists.
Sean had another tournament where he showed his scoring ability. Scoring off the dribble and by shooting. Sean had a few floaters in the lane and showed his nice soft shooting touch. When Sean is running the point he did a good job starting the offense and moving the ball. Sean is a guard and is quick. He has good handles and a solid shot. Sean also doesn’t turn the ball over that much.
Paxton Volpe position G, 11 points, 3 assists
Paxton is a player who does what ever a coach asks even if it doesn’t show up in the stat sheet. Paxton played great defense letting no one get by him. Paxton made key stops on defense to help his team get their programs first win. Paxton makes players around him better. Paxton is a hustler and the first one to dive after loose balls. Paxton made some nice baskets this weekend. Paxton has good handles and can score as well. He also has good court vision, as he made some nice passes this weekend.
