These guys play with a chip on their shoulders and have a lot of skill, talent, and ability to make things happen on the basketball court.
Lazel Evans, 5’9 Point Guard, Wyandotte, Midwest Bounce: A point guard who was a special guest at the Unsigned Senior event I was at this weekend and he put on a really solid performance in the combine, drills, and live action with the older guys. In the event and throughout the basketball season he showed his playmaking ability with the ball, effectiveness in the transition game, and all around point guard play that elevates his game and others around him. He will be looking to show that he is a point guard to be on the big stage this spring and summer, and Evans has the tools to succeed in this.
Howard Johnson Howard Johnson 6'0" | SG Junction City | 2022 State KS , 6’1 Guard, Junction City, SSA Elite 17 Black: Having his season have a great start to it to only be hampered by injury slowed down some of the big time momentum Johnson was picking up on the hoops scene in Kansas. He started to return to form after a couple of games back and has looked healthy in his return on the grassroots circuit. The microwave scoring guard has increased his already quality 3 point shooting, limited turnovers this season, continues to have a great game attacking the rim, and has become a reliable defender and rebounder form the guard spot. Earning All State 6A Honorable Mention this past season.
Jinwoo Kim Jinwoo Kim 6'1" | PG Blue Valley Southwest | 2022 State KS 6’3 Guard, Blue Valley Southwest, MoKan 2022 (Pictured): Team success was not where BVSW would have liked to been this past season but the guard had a tremendous season earning All EKL 2nd team and HM All state with averages of 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game. He has great athletic traits and plays with tremendous pace and purpose on the floor. He can get going in transition off the bounce and make athletic finishes up at the rim, and puts a ton of pressure on defenses in the half court. Kim will be looking to piece together this success on the big time stage this spring and summer.
Kernan Bundy Kernan Bundy 6'3" | SG Blue Valley North | 2022 State KS , 6’3 Guard, Blue Valley North, Team YOBO: Bundy’s rise to be a massive contributor to state champion Blue Valley North has been tremendous to follow all season long. Now it is time for him to carry that steady improvement over into the grassroots scene. Look for his athleticism, defensive flexibility, aggressive mindset, and skill with the basketball to be put on full display. Going from a rising guard with potential to one of the staple guards in the KC area will be the stamp he will look to leave this spring. He averaged 13 points and almost 2 steals per game this season.
Will Gavin Will Gavin 6'1" | CG St. Thomas Aquinas | 2022 State KS , 6’1 Point Guard, St Thomas Aquinas: A guard that we won’t see until the summer, Gavin will be looking to get back on the court from a tough injury and prove that he is still the dynamic two way guard that he is. The length, quickness, and savviness on the defensive end paired with the shot making ability, ball handling, and aggressiveness he brings on the offensive end will be fun to see back this July. Gavin is a tremendous competitor so expect him to bounce back with a flurry.
Adriel Smith Adriel Smith 5'10" | CG Rose Hill | 2022 State KS , 6’ Guard, Rose Hill: Smith will be on a mission this spring and summer after earning a ton of high school accolades this season, with some snubs for him mixed in there. The electrifying play maker at guard will look to continue his outstanding play and show why he is one of the Wichita area and states best guards out there. Averaging over 20 a game this season and a large amount of game changing assists and plays made, Smith is poised for a strong “prove it” spring and summer that teams, players, and especially coaches should be ready to take note of.
