The new 2022 rankings are out.

This season ended up being a short AIA season, a full Grind Session season, a condensed CAA season and a longer AAU season with showcase formats.

This 2022 class is hoping the same thing doesn’t happen to them as the 2021 class and have a few live periods in the summer. Either Section-7 or AAU tournaments.

We look at the Top-10 PG’s in the 2022 class:

A good group as all 15 fall into the Top-70.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="827007" first="Oakland" last="Fort"] Sunnyslope

-The POY in 6A has turned some heads this season. His combo of his athleticism, skill and poise has made him the top lead dog.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="932566" first="Dasean" last="Lecque"] Bella Vista Prep

-A talented scoring lead guard from all 3 levels. He is strong, tough and skilled.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="701246" first="Nathan" last="Calmese"] Mesquite

-A smooth scoring lead guard has range and athleticism. He is a good passer and natural scorer.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="1080826" first="Jaden" last="Clayton"] Dream City Christian (Pictured)

-A pure PG with speed. He has some jets in the open court and he can hit the 3 and pull-up from mid-range. He guided his talented team in the Grind Session.

5. [player_tooltip player_id="933538" first="Jake" last="Lifgren"] Centennial

-My Co-POY in 5A was incredible all year. With some injuries on the team, he stepped up his game and loss in the 5A Chip to Catalina Foothills. His skill is extremely high and his passing keeps getting better.

6. [player_tooltip player_id="827006" first="Lareon" last="Ginnis"] South Mountain

-A true PG is a two-way ball hawk. Although undersized, he is tough, quick and fast with the ball in his hands. His shooting is improving as he ages and he had a good season when given the opportunity to play. (He played on some club teams as South season was unfortunately cancelled.)

7. [player_tooltip player_id="1158869" first="Pierce" last="Bazil"] Phhoenix Prep

-Another pure PG with a high feel for the game. He moved in from Nebraska and his court vision and shooting jump off at you. He is also sneaky athletic to throw it down.

8. [player_tooltip player_id="701265" first="Ahamed" last="Mohamed"] Apollo

-Another undersized guard is always battle tested. He played on one of the smaller HS teams in state and fought tooth and nail. He has a nice pull-up off the dribble and is tough on the ball defensively.

9. [player_tooltip player_id="701269" first="Raydon" last="Thorson"] Queen Creek

-A pure PG makes it look easy spraying the ball around the court. He is an improving shooter and arguably the best passer in the AIA next year.

10. [player_tooltip player_id="1008807" first="Caleb" last="Shaw"] Phhoenix Prep

-A bigger PG who can play on or off the ball. He has a nice looking shot, good size and is a smart play-maker. He is coming back slowly from a year ending injury but rounding into shape as the year goes on.

5 Others:

1. [player_tooltip player_id="933489" first="Sidney" last="Wooten"] Phhoenix Prep

-Another PG who is a natural facilitator. He has good court vision, plays with a high IQ and has a nice touch on his shot from mid to the 3.

2. [player_tooltip player_id="701263" first="Orlando" last="Gonzales"] Phhoenix Prep

-One of the top shooting lead guards in the state. He has video game like range beyond the arc and once he sees one goes in, the flood gates open up. Not many more confident them him on the court. He also is a sneaky good passer and plays a smart floor game.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="1054334" first="Eli" last="Johnson"] Gilbert

-A skilled guard can shoot it and handle it. He has good speed with the ball and a stronger frame. He had a good year shooting the 3 when I viewed him.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="701251" first="Miles" last="Nash"] Brophy Prep

-A pure PG who plays two ways. He is quick on the ball defensively and makes plays for others. He uses a burst to get into the lane to score.

5. [player_tooltip player_id="827025" first="Pike" last="Tancil"] Willow Canyon

-A bigger guard was given the keys this year for the Wildcats. He is a physical driver and an improving shooter. His defense and passing is impressive stat wise this season with some monster rebounding, steals and assist numbers. He avg 21.2 ppg, 6.3 asts, 6 rpg and 2.6 steals.
