Maple Grove gave Champlin Park their first loss of the season in round one of the state tournament. Who grabbed our attention in the victory?

[player_tooltip player_id="957204" first="Terence" last="Anthony-Larmouth"] of Maple Grove. Terence is a good sized wing that can play both forward spots at 6-foot-6. Think of a division three level Henry Shannon potentially if he keeps working because he does have good size, does have some skill that allows him to play away from the rim. Anthony-Larmouth had a key second half scoring at the front of the rim and made just about foul shots to push his team to overtime multi-score advantages.

[player_tooltip player_id="774795" first="Dylan" last="Gichaba"] of Champlin Park. The Rebels had a lot of trouble scoring outside what Francis did around the basket. The 6-foot-5 Gichaba is one player that found a way to get some buckets and it was using his physical gifts. The future Minot State wing is what teams look for in a wing these days defensively: long, driven, laterally agile, and coached well. He also used his size to make the baseline jumper over a defender and score at the cup.

[player_tooltip player_id="958650" first="Jon" last="Haakenson"] of Maple Grove. The 6-foot-1/6-foot-2 guard had a second half run that gave the Crimson a 3-4 score lead. Jon had two right side rim attacks flashing through the CP defense, he hit a pull-up three off a jump-stop, and had a breakaway score. All around his production was outstanding scoring his 20 on an efficient 7 of 11 shooting plus he defended, rebounded (8), and was the best passer on the floor (7 assists, several next pass decisions that helped the team as well). He’s a scholarship kid for sure, it will be interesting to see what type as we move forward.

Morgan Moore of Maple Grove. Morgan is one of the stories of the season in terms of prospects that have made a huge jump during their senior year. With [player_tooltip player_id="774895" first="Caden" last="Boettcher"] out, Morgan his stepped up to score 13 plus points per game and against the number one team in Class AAAA, Moore’s 25 points on 9 of 14 shooting has the favorites now at home. He extended the defense with his three threes and moved off the ball to the rim for production. He’s got good size at 6-foot-4 and I have to believe MIAC programs are beating down his door. And with the scholarship crunch NSIC programs are facing, would be a good player to watch this week and likely review the film.

[player_tooltip player_id="567044" first="Francis" last="Nwaokorie"] of Champlin Park. There is surely disappointment for Francis in the loss but the young man likely didn’t hang his head as he would have no reason to. Francis gave his team everything he had moving through the Crimson zone for a big bag of foul shots, putbacks, spin move to score, and power moves around the rim. The Crimson blocked some of his shots early but Francis kept going back at the MG bigs putting them on the bench in foul trouble. He rebounded everything on his way to a 31 point, 18 rebound game. Shot 9 of 17 from the floor, 12 of 17 at the foul line. Francis will be good out west at UC-San Diego, looking forward to tracking his career.

[player_tooltip player_id="1158739" first="Raoul" last="Vaidya"] of Maple Grove. The sophomore has become the Crimson lead guard and it has to be because of the solid, steady game he played both ways against CP. The 5-foot-11 guard was at the top of the Crimson zone passing off players and stepping to guards with regular effort. He kept the ball moving for the Crimson in the steady way they needed. Four rebounds, four assists, and a steady game. One to watch going forward.
