Risers to Watch in 2021:
Landon Boss, sophomore, Osage City:
Landon Boss was unranked prior to this season, but he’s going about changing that in a big way. The 5-foot-11 sophomore is scorching the nets for the Indians, with some big scoring outings highlighted by his 36 against Central Heights.
Taylor Cable Taylor Cable 6'1" | SF Ness City | 2022 State KS , junior, Ness City:
The 6-foot-1 junior is putting up huge numbers for Ness City – 19 points and 15.2 boards to be exact. He’s a blue-collar guy who battles in the paint for every opportunity. The kind of numbers he’s putting up will earn him a lot of recognition over the next year and a half.
Zach Clark, junior, Cair Paravel:
Another small-school guy with a big start to the season. The 6-foot-3 Clark has had just one game with fewer than 17 points – 11 in a blowout of Waverly. He’s shooting 67% in the early going, and grabbing nearly 10 boards a game. The Lions face some tough public-school competition over the next two months, so watch for Clark to further establish himself.
Jerrit Norris, sophomore,Troy:
Norris’ star continues to rise. He was one of the top freshmen in the Twin Valley League. Now he’s just one of the best players in the league. He’s averaging 16.5 points and 10.3 rebounds. The Trojans got off to a tough start, but Norris will help them record plenty of wins before it’s over.
Marque Wilkerson, senior, Topeka West:
A senior on the ‘Risers’ list? Makes sense when you’re talking about a guy who wasn’t a full-time player as a junior. Wilkerson has increased his scoring average by about 9 points per game from last season. He’s now an integral component of the #4 ranked Chargers, handling the ball, facilitating the offense, playing inside and out, and scoring in a variety of ways. He has games of 23 and 18 already to his credit.
