The event featured both boys and girls teams from all over Virginia and included some from Maryland and North Carolina as well. Here’s a look at part one of the many 2022 and 2023 standouts in the event.
While it was a grassroots event, I used the player’s high school teams to help make things easier.
Kenyon Giles Kenyon Giles 5'11" | PG Oscar Smith | 2022 NV | 5’8” PG | Oscar Smith 2022
Giles continues to impress as one of the top scoring guards in the class of 2022, and one thing that really impressed me is the way he was able to bounce back after a slow start to the day. While he isn’t the biggest guy Giles is a capable shot maker and shot creator that creates space and has deep range off the bounce, and he can get hot quickly and fill it up in bunches. He’s an underrated athlete with good explosion and quickness, and he’s a guy I fully expect to be in the hunt for top scorers in the 757 this year.
Kendon Peebles Kendon Peebles 6'4" | SF Catholic | 2022 State VA | 6’4” WF | Catholic 2022
Peebles is part of a Catholic team that I expect to be contending in the TCIS, and his blue collar attitude and athleticism is a big reason for that. He has good physical tools and he plays with a high motor, which makes him very effective as a guy who can make plays on the defensive end, win 50-50 balls and rebound in traffic. He’s a guy who can score without needing the ball in his hands for long, and he flat out makes winning plays for his team.
Davien Banks Davien Banks 6'2" | SG LC Bird | 2022 State VA | 6’2” WG | LC Bird 2022
Banks will be the glue guy for his Bird team if they get to play this season, as he brings a mix of high IQ and shot making ability off the bench that will be much needed depth for this group. He played extremely well as he picked his spots and made shots, he made good decisions as he read the defense and he’s always in the right position in their press. He’s an under the radar guy who will help them win a lot of games.
Jaden Daughtry Jaden Daughtry 6'6" | SF Benedictine College Prep | 2022 VA | 6’5” WF | LC Bird 2022
Daughtry continues to show that he’s one of the most intriguing prospects in the Richmond area with his size, athleticism and production level when he gets it rolling. He’s a hard playing and high motor guy who thrives in transition where he can get downhill and use his size to finish through contact and at the rim. He rebounds on both ends of the floor, he can put it on the deck and get by guys and he defends multiple positions very hard.
Cam Kearney | 6’5” WF | Salem 2022
Kearney is a guy I believe will be a breakout player in the 757 and possibly an All 757 selection this year. The 6’5” wing has all of the tools with great size and athleticism, the ability to handle it in transition and in isolation situations and the ability to score from all over the floor. He’s also a good rebounder and when he plays with a good motor he is very difficult to stop.
Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson Efrem ‘Butta’ Johnson 6'4" | NA lbs | SG Grissom | 2022 State #NA Nation AL | 6’4” CG | Western Branch 2022
Johnson is a guy I have watched a ton this fall and I think he is poised to lead a talented Western Branch backcourt to a run in the state tournament. I also believe if he does so, he’ll see his recruitment take off with mid major and higher schools because he’s a guy who has translatable features to his game. Offensively he’s a well rounded guy who can create shots and score at multiple levels, and he makes good reads. Defensively, he isn’t the quickest or most athletic guy but he is always in good position and has good instincts on that side of the ball.
Georges Archer | 6’4” WF | Princess Anne 2022
Archer is another guy I’m expecting to have a breakout year in the 757 as he’s fully grown into his body and improved a great deal over the past two seasons. He’s filled out and shot up to 6’4” and gotten very bouncy as he’s grown into his body, he plays with good pace with the ball in his hands and he can create shots but also works off the ball well to and he can stick it from deep when he’s open. He’s a well rounded guy that will stuff the state sheet in a number of ways.
