You really don’t need to look much further than Brandl’s diverse stat line to see how much he meant to the two-time state champs. He put together two seasons for the ages. But his humble approach and team-first attitude never changed. He led with words and actions, and never had an off game. We have written quite a bit about this kid, but since he played at a level that goes somewhat unnoticed, we want to make sure he’s recognized for his leadership of the two-time champs.

Brandl (pictured) isn’t so much hot as he is characteristically efficient. He just goes out and gets it done night in and night out. The Jackrabbits sit atop the 1A Div. II state rankings at the break and have lots of talent beyond the senior Brandl. But he’s the ringleader and can score in huge outbreaks when he’s not grabbing boards and dishing to his teammates. He went for 39 against Triplains/Brewster to tie the school career scoring record. Brandl entered the break with 1,687 career points.

Brandl (pictured) turned in a season for the ages last year. His stats tell some of the story. He averaged 22.5 points, 10.5 boards, 3 assists and 3.5 steals. But more important, he led Greeley-County to a state title, averaging 25 points per game at the tournament. He returns as the best player in 1A and one of the best in all the small schools. He turns it on in club action to show the state what Western Kansas knows. This guy can play. Greeley County returns a lot, so they might be on the way to a repeat.

Brandl played with a ton of maturity and steadiness at the KC showcase. His team fell behind by a huge margin in his final game, and he helped the team keep it together and turn things around for a big come-from-behind win. He can do some of everything, and he can create scoring opportunities when needed. He’s a big guard who sees the floor and gets the ball to the right places.
