There are plenty of stars in the city, but this summer brought a whole new pack of studs to the fore.
Here is a look at some of the KC-area guards who were among the top risers this summer (in alphabetical order and with club and high school and grad year listed):
Sebastian Hamm Sebastian Hamm 6'2" | PG Blue Valley Southwest | 2022 State KS , Team KC – Green 16U, Blue Valley Southwest, 2022:
Hamm will get all over an opposing guard. He’s quick and tough and takes pride in his defense. The 5-foot-11 junior can handle the ball full court under pressure. He can get to the goal and score, or he can facilitate offense and find open shooters. He’s confident from deep as well.
Dakota Marshall, Team KC – Kerr 15U, Olathe East, 2023:
The 6-foot Marshall has a versatile offensive game. He can handle the ball all over the court, penetrating defenses to create. He can score at the goal or find an open shooter. He has good quickness and speed to break down a defense. He can shoot from anywhere. He’s aggressive on defense and looks to make big plays.
Luke Metcalf, MoKan 15U, Spring Hill, 2023:
Metcalf is a good athlete who is always moving. He will not be outworked. He takes pride on the defensive end and is athletic enough to stay with really quick guards. He works hard to get open to score, but he isn’t a high volume shooter. He will give the ball up to facilitate offense, or bring the ball up the floor looking for other shooters.
John Pujado, MoKan 15U, Blue Valley West, 2023:
Pujado didn’t fade into the shadows of the other talented guards on MoKan 15U. He showed his ability to handle the ball and penetrate. He’s not a big guy, although he looks taller than the 5-foot-7 he was last high school season. He is a quick and deft ball handler.
Terique Suwareh, Team KC – Green 16U, Olathe West, 2022:
At 6-foot-1 and ultra-athletic, Suwareh can be a nightmare defender for other guards. He has quick feet to cut off a driver or dive into a passing lane, and quick hands to swipe a dribble. He showed for Team KC – Green that he can score by getting into the lane.
Wyatt Wynn, Team KC – Kerr 15U, Olathe West, 2023:
Wynn is really good at driving through defenses to make things happen. If a defender picks him up too high, Wynn will blow right by him and wreak a defense. He can create opportunities for other shooters or pull up for a jumper in the lane. The 5-foot-10 sophomore can pick up a lot of fouls too because of his ability to penetrate.
