August 29th I attended Team Cezer’s Hoops We Did it Again tournament. The tournament had 5th grade up to 17U.

I watched 5 games from classes from 2021 to 2025.

Here were some more of the standouts I viewed on the day:

2022

[player_tooltip player_id="827012" first="Josh" last="Deakyne"] Heritage Maricopa (AZ Select 16 Deakyne)

-A pass-first pure PG makes his team go. He is an outstanding advanced passer and can thread the needle to find a teammate. He has deep shooting range and can get hot quickly. He has good speed to get passed his defender and lay it in and his mind really works. He can cut down on his turnovers as he gets a little loose with the ball at times.

[player_tooltip player_id="827042" first="Extavius" last="Mason"] Greenway (AZ Swish 16)

-An under the radar player is a long lefty with deep range. He has a nice looking ball that he gets out quickly and he also can make plays for others. He hesitates smartly to get by his man. He shows good defensive awareness and could be a nice sleeper for the Demons.

[player_tooltip player_id="827050" first="Brandon" last="Lee"] Corona del Sol (AZ Legends 17)

-A tough lefty combo guard can score it and make plays. He is very hard to keep in front of you with his shifty handle and is constantly changing speeds to keep the defender off balance. He has impressive body control in traffic and gets downhill effortlessly. He is a capable 3pt shooter but is best in the lane.

[player_tooltip player_id="1016576" first="Brock" last="Heywood"] Heritage Maricopa (AZ Select 16 Deakyne)

-A transfer by way of Red Mountain HS is athletic and tough. He can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range and although undersized, he gets to the rim often with his natural athleticism and burst. He has a nice handle to get into tight spaces. A good pick up for the program.

[player_tooltip player_id="973563" first="Jason" last="Ernest"] Buckeye (AZ Swish 16)

-An active undersized forward works well near the hoop. He can throw it down on the break and has stronger hands and good instincts to snatch the ball in the air to corral a rebound in traffic. He blocks shots and has a sturdy upper body to absorb any kind of contact. His energy and scoring around the hoop should help the Hawks on varsity next season.

2024

[player_tooltip player_id="996810" first="Preston" last="Lee"] Corona del Sol (AZ Legends 17)

-A physical downhill guard is a bully. He has a strong upper body with thick legs allowing him to fight through traffic and bounce off contact. He can score it with either hand and is a willing defender showing off his elite motor in every game played.

2025

[player_tooltip player_id="996176" first="Bryce" last="Quinet"] Brophy Prep (AZ Supreme/AZ Select 2025) (Pictured)

-I obviously don’t watch a ton of middle school ball but enough to see how talented some of these players will be. He has incredible footwork at a young age and an amazing feel for the game. He has the floater game, his 3pt shot looks clean and he can already change speeds and get inside. The thing he did maybe the best of the tournament was his passing. He is a very good passer for his age and could be a rare varsity or at least on JV his freshman season. (Almost no freshman ever play varsity at Brophy.) Maybe 3 in the last decade.

[player_tooltip player_id="1042714" first="Archie" last="Graves"] undecided (AZ Select 2025)

-Another tough PG seems to always make the right play. He has a nice burst to get into the lane and scores it on layups, floaters and contested shots. He is another who will play JV or varsity immediately depending on what school he attends.
