Prospect Spotlight: Jayden Harris (2023)

Jayden Harris, a class of 2023 guard from Christ Chapel, had a promising freshman season but is due for a breakout soon. We recently got a chance to watch The 6-foot-4 lefty in action with Team Durant. Not only is he still growing, but he stood out as a potential lockdown defender and a smooth scorer. Harris recently chatted with Prep Hoops for a Q & A session, which you will find below.

PH: How was your freshman season?

JH: “It went well. We won some games and we lost some. I think I did well. Everybody played hard.”

PH: What was your role as a freshman, and how do you think that role will expand moving forward?

JH: “I was told to score as a freshman. Shoot the ball. Get to the basket and all that. This year I’m going to do more of that. More scoring and all that. No holding back.”

PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?

JH: “I like to shoot. Get to the basket. Get my teammates open.”

PH: What have you learned from your older brother Anthony Harris?

JH: “I learned some defense. He’s good at defense, and he’s quick. So I have to be more quick dribbling the ball, getting up the court, getting rebounds and pushing the ball. He does a lot of that stuff.”

PH: What makes you such a good defender?

JH: “I’ve been working on that. Doing slides with weights and staying down.”

PH: What’s it like being a left-handed player?

JH: “Not too many people know. Most people think you’re right-handed, so they try to guard you right. It’s an advantage because usually, people think you’re right-handed. I’m good with my right hand too though. I dribble better with my right than my left.”

PH: What do you need to work on?

JH: “Staying in shape. I need to run more.”

PH: Who, if anyone, do you model your game after?

JH: “Kevin Durant. I like the way he shoots. The way he pulls up off the dribble and all that.”
