Continue ReadingBrock Blackwell of the 2018 Class is looking to return from his achilles injury with a vengeance. The 6’3” SG is poised for a great junior season with Shelbyville High School. He is ready to get back after it now that he is getting back to being healthy. Blackwell ran with Indiana Faith 2018 this summer and saw some good progression in his game. He knows where he has room for improvement and is ready to get back in the gym to work on his game.
Blackwell is a smart basketball player and uses his knowledge of the game to his advantage. Coming off this summer session, he felt as though his jump shot was becoming the strongest part in his game. His ability to be a consistent shooter from deep and mid-range will allow him to continually expand his game.
Coming into his junior season, I asked Blackwell what some of his goals were for the team and himself. “A goal of mine this year is to have a more aggressive approach to the game but I also want to step into a leader role”. Blackwell knows that he will be able to add this to his game because he can lead by example. “The goal for our team is to win the Hoosier Heritage Conference and make a run in the post season”. Conference titles are always good tests for talent and leadership.
Along with making a push at the conference title, Blackwell is ready to lead Shelbyville into their tough conference. A conference that posts Newcastle, Pendleton Heights, and Mount Vernon is definitely not an easy task. He is ready for the challenge ahead and knows that his team has the pieces to make a strong post-season run.
An area of improvement that Blackwell is paying special attention to is his ball handling and foot speed. This will allow him to get his shot quicker as well as create his own shot going to the basket. Having a quick first step in his arsenal will make him a tougher guard to defend and will allow him to create shots for his teammates.
Blackwell is looking to play at the DII/DIII/NAIA level in college and wants a program that will challenge him both academically and athletically. Although he doesn’t have any offers on the table currently, Blackwell is ready to get his recruiting heated up this season and have some interest or offers heading into his senior season. Be on the lookout for Brock Blackwell this season out of Shelbyville.
