Section 1AAA: Why Northfield will contend

Five New Names to Know

[player_tooltip player_id='2396691' first='Walker' last='Fjerstad'] of Kasson-Mantorville (Jr). Walker is a 6'1 shooting guard that scored ten points a game last season and six rebounds a contest as well. Walker is a good athlete that has the potential to be an attacking player and a good defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='2979781' first='Tyler' last='Holz'] of Northfield (Sr). The glue guy to the Raiders last season, Tyler is a leader that moves the ball, defends, rebounds five times a contest and can shoot it same scoring about three times a game. Will step into a bigger scoring role this winter but his impact is all over the court.

[player_tooltip player_id='2451548' first='Brett' last='Miller'] of Stewartville (Jr). Miller is the tough guy that plays hard and is one of the better defenders we will talk about in Class AAA hoops. An active player that scores at the rim and is stronger than other guards so he can muscle them on the glass, posting up and coring at the rim. A 40 percent three point shooter as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='3442991' first='James' last='Ramsey'] of Winona (Sr). A 6'4 small forward that scored 14 points a game last season earning all league honors last season. A really tough player to stop attacking to the rim because of his size and ability to handle the basketball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2413138' first='Isaac' last='Sorenson'] of Byron (Sr). Isaac is less new name to know but he's a guy that people should know more about. Isaac scored nearly a dozen points a game with five boards a contest. Another high attacking player that scores going at the rim and finishing over contact. Good defender too.

Top Five Teams

Stewartville. They have become my biggest favorite after watching them play this summer.

Northfield. A deeper team than we first though, a true contender as their frontcourt with [player_tooltip player_id='2979781' first='Tyler' last='Holz'] and Cal Sneed will be better than expected.

Byron. The Bears were 11-16 last year, they have a couple key guys but will they have the depth?

Kasson-Mantorville. The KoMets should take another step forward and with the young talent that now has experience, they should.

Austin. The Packers have long developed talent at the younger levels but they will need a lot of it to step forward this year.

Top 3 1AAA Players

[player_tooltip player_id='2417228' first='Liam' last='Oakland'] of Northfield (Jr).

[player_tooltip player_id='2381766' first='Xzayveun' last='Severin'] of Austin (Sr).

Peter Tschetter of Stewartville (Sr)

Three Teams That Should Improve Their Record

Stewartville (17-11 last year)

Kasson-Mantorville (10-17 last year)

Winona (5-22 a year ago)

Three Teams That Might Not Match Last Year's Win Total

Northfield (26-5 last season)

Faribault (10-17 last year)

Austin (16-12 last season)
