This was an active week for college commitments as two more top 10 prospects belonging to our 2027 rankings announced where they'll head next fall. The No. 2 overall prospect out of Bishop McNamara and [program_tooltip program_id='2078457' first='Team' last='Durant'], [player_tooltip player_id='2353561' first='Brandon' last='Woodard'], made his pledge to Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights have somewhat quietly put together an interesting class comprised of Woodard, Korey Francis (Bonner) and RJ Moore (Ambassador Christian). Woodard is one of the elite athletes in the high school landscape regardless of class and his ceiling is one that if head coach Steve Pikiell and company can help tap into, could result in a ton of production and highlights above the rim.

The other commitment came from the No. 3 overall prospect in Sidwell Friends and [program_tooltip program_id='2076999' first='Team' last='Melo'] forward [player_tooltip player_id='2353562' first='Ian' last='Condon']. He picked the Florida Gators over Boston College, Georgia Tech and NC State. He'll head to Gainesville as a prospect that head coach Todd Golden and his staff have prioritized over the years. A comparison would be to current Gator forward Thomas Haugh, who was largely under recruited coming out of high school and has vastly outplayed his ranking. I see a similar trajectory with Condon given his mix of skill, strength and IQ.

That leaves three player within the top 10 still available. Below, we get into the latest within each prospect's recruitment.

Jones enters the 2026-27 season as the top prospect in the Baltimore Metro Area and should be the favorite to take home BCL Player of the Year honors if he plays to his potential. The Panthers will look to protect their BCL title from last season and rely heavily on Jones' ability to orchestrate the offense both as a potent multi-level scorer and crafty playmaker.

As far as Jones' recruitment stands, it seems like there are four schools who are currently in the mix as visits are getting figured out. Those programs include Dayton, Texas Southern Towson and UAB. The immediate draw with UAB is that Jones' father played there for his senior year of college. Whether or not the current situation at UAB will fit Jones' strengths will be figured out over the next few weeks as he starts to focus on this core group. This isn't to say that a decision will follow anytime in the near future, but this could be one that stays mainly under the radar and then Jones pops out with a commitment in more of a surprising fashion.

Ranking: No. 5

Veney and the Cadets are currently out west to participate in the Border League this weekend, but prior to him jumping on a plane we were able to catch up with the 6-foot-4 combo guard and talk about his latest official visits to Delaware and Old Dominion.

Delaware: "It was good! It is not too far from home at all and they have some DMV natives on the team that I can relate to. I also like how their play style fits me."

Old Dominion: "It was great. I love the area because it is not too far from home. The living there is good as well. I also like the players and the interactions that I had with them was great. I also love the plan that the staff has in plan for me."

There's one potential visit left on the docket for Veney and that would be to another local program in George Mason. Head coach Tony Skinn has hunted the DMV area for years no matter what program's polo he was sporting and since taking over at George Mason, has had a long line of local prospects come through and put together successful seasons. As stated earlier, there has not been a visit date confirmed yet with the A10 program, but when/if one is, we'll be on top of it.

[player_tooltip player_id='2353549' first='Jordan' last='Taylor'] | St. John's (DC)/[program_tooltip program_id='2076999' first='Team' last='Melo']

Ranking: No. 6

Veney's teammate at St. John's (DC) is the last available prospect in our top 10. Taylor is one of the more powerful athletes we've seen in recent years when you take into consideration his size at 6-foot-5, strength and power. Despite his lack of size for a four man, Taylor takes on the presence of someone who is 6'7"-6'8" with his vertical athleticism, vicious approach to rebounding and over the last six months, has really dialed in on his perimeter game to pose as more of a hybrid forward at the college level.

Not only are both Taylor and Veney in Vegas for the weekend, but both have a similar option within their college choices. Taylor told Prep Hoops that that three schools he plans on setting up visits with once they get back home include Delaware, Drexel and Towson.

As Veney mentioned in his quote about Delaware, there's a familiar cast of faces from the DMV area set to take the court for the Blue Hens such as Mason Ellison, DeShawn Harris-Smith and Devin Dinkins. Assistant coach Corey McCrae has wasted no time in making his ties to the area known as the DeMatha grad has had success in recruiting talent from the DMV over his coaching career.

The way that Taylor plays is typically the exact player that Towson hunts for. The Tigers have two stellar commitments thus far in the 2027 class and look to add one more piece to made it another productive haul. [player_tooltip player_id='2454529' first='Junior' last='Mancho'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2353528' first='Kirby' last='Duran'], two prospects who also belong in our top 10, have already announced their commitment to the Tigers. We'll see if head coach Pat Skerry and his staff decide to make it 3/3 from the local crop.

Assistant coach Tim Brooks is another grinder who does a good job of evaluating talent from our area and adding Taylor would be a piece who can come in an potentially out perform expectations for the Dragons.
