More Than Buckets: Leadership and Poise at the PH Expo

The Utah Expo had plenty of players who could put the ball in the basket, but some guys stood out for more than just their scoring. Leadership, poise, and the way they carried themselves on the court caught my attention. Here are some players who showed those qualities throughout the Expo.

Players

Joel caught my eye with his confidence and poise on the court. He has that never-too-high, never-too-low mentality that you want to see from a point guard. He is a true PG who can score and playmake when he wants to, and he does a good job of staying in control of the game. I like his ability to read the floor and make plays while still being able to get a bucket when his team needs one. What stands out most to me is how he carries himself and leads by example. That kind of mentality goes a long way for a young guard.

I talked with his AAU coach Chase Berry who had this to say about him: “J is a kid who has plenty of potential, and we are excited to see his growth. He was one of our lead guards this summer, and the kids on the team follow his example. We love the way he carries himself and the leadership he brings to the team.”

Bremser is the type of player you want on your team. He leads by example and does the little things that coaches love to see. Whether it's rebounding, playmaking, shot-making, or being vocal on the court, Zack did everything a coach could ask for. He is a great shooter with good size and the ability to get downhill when he wants. What I like about Zack is that he can impact the game in multiple ways and doesn't have to rely on scoring alone to make his presence felt. He is the kind of player who makes the guys around him better.

Fox is a super respectful competitor who is very vocal on the court and carries himself like a leader. He can knock down shots, but I also love his downhill attack and his ability to finish in traffic. He plays with confidence and brings a competitive edge that stands out. Riverton has some players who can make a run this season, and Hudson will be a huge part of that plan.

David is a young player with potential out the gym. He's a scrappy player who makes the teammate next to him want to compete even harder. He showed that Texas swag, and I loved it! What stood out to me was his poise as a PG. He plays with confidence, stays composed, and has the ability to get past defenders and make plays for himself and his teammates. He still has a lot to add to his game, but he's young and has plenty of time to keep growing. I'll definitely be watching this kid as he continues to develop.

Brady is a 6'7” big from Bingham who can do it all in the paint. He rebounds, gets putbacks, finishes through contact, and can throw it down on people. His ability to score inside and protect the rim makes him a tough matchup for any team. I also loved how vocal he was on the court, something you want to see from a big. What stood out to me most was his calm demeanor at camp. He never got too high, stayed composed, and let his game do the talking. Brady caught my eye, and he's definitely a big I'll be watching.
