Kearns is going through a youth movement, and they will get a lot of miles out of Joel. He is a speedy PG who is learning to see the floor and make good, high-quality decisions. Joel will be among Kearns’ best players this coming season.

Joel caught my eye with his confidence and poise on the court. He has that never-too-high, never-too-low mentality that you want to see from a point guard. He is a true PG who can score and playmake when he wants to, and he does a good job of staying in control of the game. I like his ability to read the floor and make plays while still being able to get a bucket when his team needs one. What stands out most to me is how he carries himself and leads by example. That kind of mentality goes a long way for a young guard.

I talked with his AAU coach Chase Berry who had this to say about him: “J is a kid who has plenty of potential, and we are excited to see his growth. He was one of our lead guards this summer, and the kids on the team follow his example. We love the way he carries himself and the leadership he brings to the team.”
