As part of our preseason preview content, we're counting down the top 15 candidates for this year's Mr. Basketball award, presented annually to the top senior in the state. Our countdown begins with our No. 15 player, Wilton wing [player_tooltip player_id='2419757' first='Bryer' last='Putman']. Name: [player_tooltip player_id='2419757' first='Bryer' last='Putman'] Height: 6-6 Position: F School: Wilton 2025-26 stats: 485 points (22.0/game), 266 rebounds (12.1), 64 assists (2.9), 78 steals (3.5), 49 blocks (2.2), 205-397 FG (51.6%), 12-60 3P (20.0%), 63-128 FT (49.2%) Career stats: 1,138 points (20.3), 655 rebounds (11.7), 156 assists (2.8), 164 steals (2.9), 141 blocks (2.5), 470-947 FG (49.6%), 33-143 3P (23.1%), 165-334 FT (49.4%) About Putman: Putman has been one of the most productive players in the 2027 class since his freshman year, when he averaged 17.1 points and 10.7 rebounds per game. He's a physical, athletic 6-6 forward who can handle it, score at the bucket efficiently through contact, and he's an extremely versatile defender who is averaging over five stocks per game in his career. The numbers that he's able to put up on a nightly basis are rivaled by few players in the state. Why he can win Mr. Basketball: It's definitely a long shot because of the lack of team success that Wilton has had in Putman's three years, but he puts up video game-type numbers every night, and averaging 25-15-4-3-3 isn't out of the question in his senior year. If he's able to lead the Beavers on a postseason run (the talent is there), while putting up huge numbers, he may garner some consideration from the small-school voting contingent.
