Crispus Attucks Tigers Open Gym Notes

Made the trip up to see one of the top programs in Class 3A year in and year out and Coach Chris Hawkins has yet again a talented group with a nice blend of experience, impact transfers, and two young prospects that will be game changers for the next 3-4 years. Here is a recap from today's Open Gym at Crispus Attucks:

Returning Experience

Leading returning scorer for the Tigers was really good throughout open gym. The energy and competitiveness he brought really showed he is taking over the leadership role. He's a dynamic, crafty guard that scores in a variety of different ways. Shoots it with deep range and also was able to get downhill where he's a solid finisher around the basket and is unselfish making the right read when the defense rotates.

Physical big man that started games last year for the Tigers returns and has expanded his game in different ways. Always been an excellent rebounder for being undersized at his position. He has good footwork, hands, and a soft touch when scoring. Played really hard and was vocal defensively today being the anchor in the middle. Offensively he's expanded his game to become a respectable shooter that you have to get out on.

Impact Transfers

First time getting eyes on 2027 Decatur Central Transfer Guard [player_tooltip player_id='3482994' first='Tre' last='Early'], and he looked the part as an impact player in the backcourt for the Tigers. Smooth guard that will provide playmaking and shooting ability off the catch. Showed he was comfortable playing on or off the ball. Puts pressure on the defense with his driving ability and made really good decisions.

One of two transfers in from Pike High School that will be immediate impact guys. [player_tooltip player_id='2554751' first='Darren' last='Glasco'] is a 5'10” guard prospect in the class of 2028 that plays extremely hard and will impact the game on both ends of the floor. He's a hard nosed defender that will be able to create havoc and get the Tigers out playing fast. Steady downhill driver that can score it while also being a talented playmaker that can set teammates. Like Early, Glasco just solidifies the backcourt for Crispus Attucks as the strength of this squad.

Probably the most impressive prospect of the day came in the form of 6'5” 2028 Wing [player_tooltip player_id='2958934' first='DeAndre' last='Leonard']. The Pike Transfer is a long and athletic wing that plays with so much energy on both ends of the floor. Versatile defender that rebounds at a high level. Runs the floor and uses his length and athleticism to his advantage in transition where he's a big time finisher. Should be a Day 1 starter for the Tigers giving them a lob threat and versatility.

Youthful Game-Changers

When it comes to standout players at open gym, [player_tooltip player_id='3785490' first='Donell' last='Dawson'] was right there and showed why the program is so excited for the future with him in the backcourt. He's a smaller guard that is electric on the floor. Plays at his own pace and does a good job getting to his spots, but not getting too deep. He's a crafty finisher with either hand. Talented playmaker that understands angles in the pick and roll and showed really nice court vision and IQ with the ball in his hands.

One of the top freshman in the entire state is physical 2030 Wing [player_tooltip player_id='3704180' first='Tomarri' last='Patterson']. He's a confident scorer that knows how to use his body to his advantage. Capable shooter off the catch, but thrives getting downhill and is a strong finisher around the basket and has a soft touch in his midrange. Bigger framed wing with intriguing playmaking and court vision. Will impact games from Game 1 and be a big time scorer in his time for the Tigers.
