Commonwealth Basketball Group hosted its annual JUCO/Prep showdown this past weekend, bringing in some of the best junior college, prep school, and high school programs both from Virginia and across the East Coast and Midwest. Walters is far more than a shooter but earns mention here thanks to his barrage of long-range jumpers, coming both off the catch and in pullup situations after sizing up his defender or navigating off a ball screen. He's an extreme athlete in open space and is developing at a rapid pace as both a ballhandler and passer. His work on the other end is also noteworthy where he shows consistent activity and great hands to make plays and turn defense into offense going the other way. Walters was taking on all comers throughout the entire weekend and may have been the best player in a gym littered with high-major talent.

Hargrave looked to be coming together quickly with a new-look roster in the wake of a coaching transition, with Gatehouse as a key part of a deep, well-rounded perimeter attack. Coming off the bench behind a Mountain West commit, the North Carolina product was consistently effective with his ability to space the floor off the catch, showing a smooth release from somewhat of a set shot. Gatehouse has good size and a sturdy build that he's not afraid of putting to use on either end of the floor. He also impressed with his deceptive quickness attacking closeouts and athleticism as a finisher at the rim, shown on both a smooth up-and-under reverse and a highlight slam in transition. Overall Gatehouse certainly backed up his status as a bonafide D1 recruit on the wing.

There'd been some buzz this fall around some of his FCS teammates but none impressed to the extent of Evin over the course of the weekend for the Cardinals. A native of Turkey who just arrived in the U.S. this past month, it doesn't look like he's needed much time to get his feet wet, stepping right into a marquee role as both a shotmaker and playmaker from the wing. Evin displayed a smooth, confident stroke off the catch along with comfort flowing into rhythm pullups. He's not the quickest but is strong and tough in the floor game while showing some fluidity in space and nice pace to his handle in the open floor. It's always promising to see European prospects who are able to make an immediate impact in the U.S. without much of an adjustment period, pointing to some potentially intriguing upside outcomes for Evin as he continues to acclimate on and off the court.

Potomac seemed to be clicking on all cylinders in a runaway win over St. Anne's-Belfield and that included Conley slotting neatly into his role as a dynamic floor-spacer from the perimeter. Conley shows impressive polish to his mechanics whether spotting up off the catch, moving off of screens, or getting into the midrange for pullups. He's not a one-trick pony either, showing nice straight-line skill off the bounce highlighted by a smooth running floater off the glass with his left hand. Scholarship-level programs with a heavy value placed on shooting should be monitoring Conley and his development closely over the next year-plus.

No team looked closer to midseason form this weekend than Highland, evidenced by the play of not just the Hawks' stars but also by its role players like Banks in support. The junior swingman impressed throughout the weekend with his ability to space the floor off the catch as a wing with nice size and athleticism. He also showed capable ball skills in open space while consistently playing a smart and tough-nosed floor game on both ends. Banks' contributions may not be the sexiest but his impact on winning is unquestionable and should put him firmly on scholarship-level radars, particularly as he adds bulk to his wiry strong frame.

Part of a young, revamped Miller lineup that will be thrown into the fire of the Elite Prep League, Winters put together an effective weekend in the Mavericks' first competitive run of the fall. A repeat sophomore from Western Albemarle, he's as dynamic a sniper as we saw all weekend with a pure, feathery release that he's able to access in all kinds of ways with advanced balance and footwork. Winters was uncharacteristically cold at certain points but showed the mindset to shoot through a slump and continue posing a threat to the defense. His strong build and ability to contribute as a secondary ballhandler were also nice to see after having been limited mostly to perimeter sniping on the grassroots circuit. Look for Winters to generate D1 attention over time as part of a deep, talented core of 2029's at Miller.

Part of a young, revamped Miller lineup that will be thrown into the fire of the Elite Prep League, Winters put together an effective weekend in the Mavericks' first competitive run of the fall.
