Brebeuf Jesuit Braves | LG’s Open Gym Notes

Thursday afternoon I made the near three hour drive up to see one of the more dominant teams from June in the Brebeuf Jesuit Braves. One of the top teams in Class 3A with Head Coach Allen Glunt on the sidelines heading into his fifth season at the helm after winning the sectional last season. The Braves will be led by an extremely deep senior class that showcased their skill at open gym. [player_tooltip player_id='2140343' first='Chase' last='Edmundson'] plays the game the right way with so much energy on both ends of the floor and has the ability to impact that game in so many different ways. Fluid athlete that lives in the passing lanes and thrives in transition where he is a big time finisher above the rim. In the half court he showed he's a good three-point shooter with a bit of an unorthodox release, but he makes them at a good percentage. Left handed shooter with deep range. Got going in a hurry during the scrimmage with his smooth quick release. Also showed a knack for timely cuts and finishes well around the basket. Physical frame that thrives on getting downhill. He's able to absorb contact at a high level and finish around the basket creatively with either hand. Has really worked on his perimeter jumper and shot the ball well at open gym. Best when he's in rhythm off the move. Willing passer on his drives. The 6'4” Wing is a high motor wing that simply creates chaos on the defensive end while being the ultimate play finisher offensively. Extremely disruptive defensive. Capable of guarding 1-5 on most nights with his length and athleticism. Offensively showed flashes of being a guy that can go get a bucket from anywhere on the floor. Good handle with a long first step to get by his man. Goes up strong around the basket and should be a guy that draws a ton of fouls on the season. Streaky shooter but shoots it with confidence off the catch. Really good athlete that plays with physicality and rebounds well. Mobile big man that's a pick and roll threat with good hands and has pop in his athleticism when finishing around the basket. Also showed that he's become more comfortable with his perimeter jumper. Nice compact motion that's repeatable. Dynamic guard that can get his shot off from anywhere. Supremely confident shooter that's comfortable off the catch and off the dribble. Better when playing off the ball so he can run off screens. Does a good job reading the defense and knowing whether to curl or stop and pop. High motor defender that can pressure full court and make life difficult for the opposition. Capable of running the point and getting his teammates involved or can play off the ball and be aggressive looking to score. Streaky shooter from three, but plays with good balance and can get hot in a hurry. Really good with the drive. Quick first step and a tight handle that helps him get to his spots. Love the patience he plays with when getting in the lane. Good footwork and elevation into his midrange jumper where he can rise up over defenders. Long wingspan for his height that makes him disruptive in the passing lanes. Understands how to get himself open and is quick to getting shot ready. [player_tooltip player_id='3790124' first='Luca' last='Franken'] his ability to put the ball on the floor. Really good at turning his drives into post ups and using his size to his advantage. Intriguing passer with good court vision. Good rebounder on both ends of the floor that will get more offensive looks and secure possessions on the defensive glass. Lightning quick lead guard that is a temp pusher. One man press breaker that can get down the floor in a hurry and create opportunities for himself and others. Crafty finisher when he gets all the way to the basket. Didn't see much a of a perimeter jumper. Really good in the pick and roll and showed he's capable of making good decisions with on time, on target passes.
