Border League Evaluations: Top Performers

Border League brought some of the best high school programs in the country to Las Vegas, and the talent matched the stage. From national powers, every court had prospects worth watching.   After three days of evaluations, a handful of players separated themselves with how they create, score and impact winning. These are the top performers who stood out most from Border League weekend. More to come!    A true anchor inside, Akuentok protects the rim and controls the glass on both ends. He's comfortable operating with his back to the basket in the post and shows a soft touch around the rim. Above it, he's a constant lob threat who gives his guards an easy target.     A legitimate three-level shot creator, Mitchell consistently generates quality looks on his own. He's comfortable rising into the midrange pull-up and carries that range out to the 3-point line, forcing defenders to respect him at every level. Burst and a tight handle let him get downhill, where he finishes with high-release layups.     Off the bounce is where Benn does his best work, creating separation with the dribble and dictating the matchup. He gets downhill with purpose and scores from the midrange and from three. That blend of rim pressure and perimeter shot-making makes him a tough cover.     A sharp ball handler who's just as effective without it, Bowman moves off the ball and relocates to open space before knocking down catch-and-shoot threes. He sees the floor well and knows when to take over, picking his spots and creating his own shot, often with a fading midrange jumper. When he goes downhill, he draws contact and gets to the free-throw line.     With the ball on a string, Mitakaro plays at his own pace. He can stop on a dime to create space for his midrange pull-up, and he's a threat from beyond the arc as well. His passing instincts stand out, giving him plenty of ways to impact the game.
