Who’s the Best Point Guard in the State?

Utah has been known to produce some of the best PG's over the past few years. You have players like Junior County who will be suiting up for UCONN. You also have players like Steven Ashworth, a player who had a phenomenal college and high school career. Here are a few names to add to the list.

The Candidates

Miller is headed to California after high school, having committed to play for Cal State Fullerton. This is a great fit for Miller, as he spends a lot of time in California with his family over the summer. Miller might be one of the best scorers this season, or even out of the bunch that we will name. He is likely to average over 20 PPG this coming season, and it would not be crazy to think that he could have the season high for points scored in a game. When Miller is on, he is hard to stop.

Winitana has really elevated his game since making the move from American Heritage to Wasatch Academy. It is hard to substitute that level of competition in practice and in games, as WA plays the best schedule in the country. Winitana is one of the best two-way playing PGs in the state, and the way he gets after it defensively really makes him a complete player at the position. It would not be surprising if the University of Utah finds a way to snag this top-tier PG.

Young might be the most electric PG out of the bunch as he plays with a lot of confidence, and he sure knows how to score the ball. Young has elite range, and in the pick-and-roll, you never know what he is thinking or what he might do. That level of freedom that he plays with makes him one of the best and one of the hardest PGs to guard.

If you thought Troy was good these past few years, you need to see him now. Kaufusi has gotten better, and he has gotten more efficient. His overall play has really taken a turn, and that turn is upward. Troy is an HM prospect who has over a handful of offers, and he will only pick up more playing time in the best league in the country.

White has quietly risen to become one of the best PG's in the state. You want someone who can. score, but also someone who can dish the ball and get the ball into the right hands. Tobler does all of that, and he plays solid at the defensive end. Tobler is set to have a big year.

Hansen has been making his case this offseason, as he has been fun to watch in the Utah Top 50. While there are players who need to dribble all over the floor and shoot over multiple defenders, Hansen is the opposite of that. Hansen looks efficient, and he keeps it simple. His ability to score with ease has been seen, and he is among the best lead guards in the state.

Honorable Mention

Victor Lopez |- Summit Academy

Swift Hall - Springville

Cooper Young - Pleasant Grove

Krew Eckman - Alta
