Ogundoju has a presence that's bigger than his listed 6-foot-2 height and that was apparent on drives as his defender or ones rotating from the weakside tried to knock him off his spot. In many occasions, he acted like a running back on a football field and bullied them with his inside shoulder to command the necessary space needed for finishing around the rim. He used that physicality to fend off bigs for boards, sprint the lanes consistently in transition and was an active, off-ball cutter with good timing.

Wrote about Maliar's performance in-depth for the Second Team article, but to revisit why he got the nod it all stemmed with his IQ as a decision maker. Maliar isn't a point guard, but he makes sound reads and decisions on his catches around the perimeter. Whether it's quickly getting off it with an extra pass, pulling the trigger when his defender hesitates to closeout or attacking gaps with the intention of forcing help to free up others, there was an attractive simplicity to what he brought. It took a game or two for his team to form some cohesion, but Maliar eventually ended the day strong on a very strong note.

You wouldn't have realized Wilson was one of the younger prospects in attendance based solely off his play. Facing off against mostly upperclassmen, Wilson was confident in his attacks off the bounce, but showed even more intriguing IQ with his ability to read the floor as a cutter. Baseline cuts as others drove into the paint, quick angled cuts to the rim as in transition as he reached the wing and quick flashes to the high-post as the ball reached the weakside were just a few different ways he remained dialed in no matter if he had the ball or not. If he found driving lanes off the bounce, he showed soft touch on floaters to finish over extended arms of defenders.

Perkins has shown confidence and assertiveness in past events, but it was his command on the ball and willingness to handle defensive pressure with a sense of calmness that stood out as improvements. The southpaw combo guard can make his defender pay off the catch from beyond the arc with quick, confident mechanics. He took on contact better as he attacked the rim, maintained balance on pull-ups from 15 feet and in while also keeping his eyes up in case any last second kick-out or dump-off passes became available.

SMCA made a few key additions this summer to have a roster that should take things to a new level and Burke will be a piece of that puzzle. A 6-foot-6 hybrid forward who is a fluid mover in the open floor. He had a few occasions to show off the above-the-rim ability, but caught my eye more with his inside/out ability in the half court. He was effective from the top of the key with quick rips as he used his long stride to gain an advantage on his defender. Defensively he was active and an effective hedger on ball screens, snagged rebounds at their peak and altered a handful of shots in the paint to force misses.

Russ will look to be a piece of the North County varsity roster this season and based off his activity on both ends from Sunday, he should have a good chance in doing just that. He was at his best getting to spots inside the arc where pulled up for quick mid-range shots with a high release. He showed ability to finish with either hand on contested layups, was always willing to make the extra pass in transition to manufacture a better look and used his wiry frame to disrupt in the passing lanes.

Deshotel showed to be a threat from outside when he has hit feet set and a split-second to get his shoulders square. He has nice, compact mechanics and gets an ideal rotation on the ball following his release. He was able to finish through bumps on trips to the basket and was a dependable option if he was going right on those drives.

He did a nice job of playing at his own pace, playing off two in the painted area and had a few occasions where he showed nice anticipation as a passer, delivering passes on target off the live dribble to cutting teammates.

Shabani fits the script for the style that John Carroll has thrived with as a program with prospects who can bury three's with high volume, read-and-react quickly on backdoor cuts and finish on straight-line drives as closeouts become undisciplined. He can shoot it off movement (lifts, pin downs, etc.), can get his shot off quickly if he has to use a move or two to create the necessary space and does a nice job of flaring out to the wing on transition possessions to get in the shot-ready position.
