Texas 2029 Rankings: Five Names On My Watchlist

In this article, I'll be sharing five names that I'll be closely monitoring in my local area. With the end of grassroots, I'll have more opportunities to watch these prospects. During the grassroots season, I've only been able to watch them a few times, but they've gained attention. Let's take a closer look at these five prospects:    [player_tooltip player_id='3347576' first='Julius' last='Ogunfuye'] is a 2029 wing out of One World Academy with a strong combination of size, athleticism, and developing skill. His ability to play on the perimeter at 6'6 gives him the versatility to create advantages against smaller defenders. Ogunfuye can use his size to shoot over the top, attack closeouts, and make plays while also showing the athleticism to finish above the rim. Defensively, his length and mobility give him the tools to defend multiple positions and make an impact around the ball. The rising sophomore will continue to improve overtime and has already picked up offers from Cal State University Northridge, Mississippi State, West Virginia, and more.      [player_tooltip player_id='3346656' first='Ajani' last='Jones'] is a 2029 guard out of Pearland Dawson High School who already showed an ability to impact winning basketball during his freshman season. He has the handle and quickness to create advantages off the bounce while keeping pressure on the defense. Jones also shows a willingness to make plays for teammates rather than relying solely on his scoring ability. His defensive activity, including his ability to generate steals, adds another layer to his overall impact. With two Division I offers and interest following, I'm confident Jones will have a great year ahead.      Brandon “BJ” LaFell Jr. is a 2029 point guard who brings quickness, ball skills, and a natural feel for operating with the ball in his hands. At 6 foot, he plays with the confidence to pressure defenses and create opportunities off the bounce. LaFell has the ability to push tempo, get downhill, and keep defenders occupied with his handle and change of pace. Currently, LaFell has a ton of offers from both football and basketball as he has dominated both sports at Shadow Creek High School. During fall league, Shadow Creek has been without LaFell, but when he is back, I'm sure he will give them a huge boost.      [player_tooltip player_id='3692550' first='Cameron' last='Chambers'] is a 2029 prospect with intriguing positional versatility and impressive size for a young perimeter player. At 6'7, he has the ability to operate as a bigger guard or forward while creating matchup problems with his physical tools. Chambers has shown enough perimeter versatility to project beyond a traditional frontcourt role, giving him long-term upside as his skill set develops. His length also gives him the ability to guard multiple positions and impact the game without needing the ball. Going into his sophomore year Chambers will be stepping into a huge role for Cypress Springs High School.      [player_tooltip player_id='3346662' first='Dominic' last='Walker'] is a 2029 point guard who brings a competitive approach and the willingness to make plays with the ball in his hands. At 5'9, his quickness and ability to change direction give him a foundation for creating separation against opposing guards. Walker shows value as a ball-handler while continuing to develop his ability to consistently create scoring opportunities for himself and teammates. I expect Walker to step into a more involved role at Houston Christian High School this upcoming season.
