I attended an open gym at Wayne Memorial and was very impressed with the talent that took the floor. There were high level veterans and exciting young players in the gym. This is our second look at some players that stood out. You can see the first part at the link below.

https://prephoops.com/2026/09/standouts-at-the-wayne-memorial-open-gym/

Baylor just flat out looked like an up and coming star player. He was comfortable and confident with his jumper from beyond the arc. But he also showed the ability to penetrate the paint and patiently score from there as well. Baylor drove and hit 2 feet on the block. From there, he used his positioning and pivot foot to create a really good look at the rim. Baylor is long and athletic, almost reminding me of Goins for Wayne Memorial last year.

Boyd is just a sophomore, but you'd never know it by looking. There are plenty of seniors who don't show up to an open gym with his frame. And Boyd didn't just look the part, he was strong and free moving as well. He did a really nice job getting out in transition and attacking the block in the open floor.

Johnson-Baker definitely caught my eye at the open run. I really liked the energy and effort that he brought on the defensive end of the floor. Johnson-Baker seemed to go all out on every defensive possession. He played his man's base and kept himself in guarding positions. He could be a key senior on Wayne Memorial this season.

Simmons will definitely play a role in the success of the Wayne Memorial team this coming season. If I recall correctly, I believe he started games on the 2025 state finalist team. Simmons was really good at the open gym. He was a downhill guard who wanted to go straight line at the rim. Simmons has some high level handles and ball skills.

Turner will be a player to keep an eye on. He's an unselfish guard who makes good decisions with the ball. Turner knows what a good shot looks like, and seemed to convert when he saw one at the open gym. He could play an important leadership role as well, as his teammates really seemed to respect him in the gym.
