Preseason Workout Report: Crispus Attucks and Brebeuf Jesuit

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Covering Indiana High School Basketball has become a nearly 365 day a year job. The season obviously starts up around Thanksgiving and runs until the beginning of spring. Then, the grassroots schedule picks up almost immediately and runs through the end of July. August is a bit of a quieter month, but once school gets back in session there will be fall leagues and preseason workouts all across the state. Getting out and spending time with our state's great coaching staffs and getting a more intimate, behind-the-scenes look at specific programs is one of our favorite parts of the coverage calendar. Our travels across the state started as the calendar turned to September. Crispus Attucks and Brebeuf Jesuit were our first two stops.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:separator --> <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" /> <!-- /wp:separator --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Crispus Attucks Tigers</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Coach Chris Hawkins is entering Year 11 at the helm at Crispus Attucks High School. In nine of those 10 seasons the Tigers have won 15 or more games including cutting down the nets as state champions in 2017 and finishing as the runner-up in 2025. On paper, this year's team may appear to be a bit down but you should never count out the Tigers. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2907634' first='Corde' last='Hill'] suffered a torn ACL at the end of a strong summer and will likely miss most, if not all, of the season. Attucks will be relying heavily on a very talented Class of 2030, but that group isn't just excited about the future. They are looking to win now.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Senior guard Octavious "Boobie" Comer and senior forward Markale Gray are the two primary veteran returners for the 2026-2027 season. Comer is a talented playmaker who shot it with confidence at the workout we attended on Wednesday and can serve as the primary ball handler. Gray provides some size and versatility as a 6'4" forward who can drive it right from the perimeter or use his physicality to score over his left shoulder inside.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='3704180' first='Tomarri' last='Patterson'] is the name to know for this group this season though. The 6'3" freshman guard had some monster games at the Charlie Hughes Showcase in June proving himself as the Tigers' best player and go-to offensive weapon from day one. He is highly skilled with the ball in his hands, but also has impressive positional size and physicality that makes him very hard to defend. Patterson is likely a Top 5, or at least Top 10, prospect in Indiana's Class of 2030.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Sophomore guard Donell Dawson got valuable varsity experience as a freshman last season and returns looking to step into a larger role. Meanwhile, 5'9" Brandon Beasley Jr., 6'5" Demaree Crenshaw, 5'7" Aizaeih Primm, and 5'9" [player_tooltip player_id='2548859' first='Saint' last='Turner'] are all incoming freshmen who could play alongside Patterson for Crispus Attucks this season. Do not sleep on the young talent that this group possesses.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Brebeuf Jesuit Braves</h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This team really turned some heads at the Charlie Hughes Showcase in June proving themself as a potential Top 5 in Class 3A entering the 2026-2027 season. They broke through last year to win a Sectional Championship and came up just one possession short of eventual State Runner Up-Cathedral in the Regional. However, this year they will be in potentially an even tougher gauntlet of Sectional 26 that features Bishop Chatard, Cathedral, Crispus Attucks, Shortridge, and others.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brebeuf returns six of their top seven scorers from last season led by leading scorer [player_tooltip player_id='2140342' first='Chace' last='Ford'] who put up 12.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game. Fellow senior guards [player_tooltip player_id='2886224' first='Dylan' last='Logan'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2141016' first='Jayden' last='Washington'] averaged 10.7 points and 7.4 points per game respectively a year ago. Those three make up an excellent, veteran backcourt.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On the wing, twin brothers [player_tooltip player_id='2140343' first='Chase' last='Edmundson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2140344' first='Cooper' last='Edmundson'] return for their senior seasons. Both will help to space the floor as catch-and-shoot threats. Chase especially is coming off of a strong summer that saw the 6'4" shooter gain a good deal of Division III interest. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2560621' first='Antonio' last='Harris'] will factor into the equation on the wing as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In terms of size, 6'5" skilled junior forward Luca Franken and 6'5" bouncy senior center [player_tooltip player_id='3657961' first='Courtney' last='Hart'] will largely making up the front court. Franken is definitely one to watch and get to know as he can stretch the floor as a three-point shooting threat. Hart is a pogo-stick with a great motor that can play above the rim.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brebeuf Jesuit, led by head go Allen Glunt, have all of the pieces to make a legitimate run in Class 3A.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
