DII-AA: Which guards will make an All-Region Team?

Plenty of talent are in the league, especially at the guard spot. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Now the question is: Which ones will make an All-Region Team?</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There are definitely guards in the league with a shoe in, while there are other guards that may surprise many people.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For starters, here are the guards that should make an All-Region Team:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2283268' first='Greg' last='Spight'], Briarcrest: The Saints will have to lean more on [player_tooltip player_id='2283268' first='Greg' last='Spight'] this upcoming season after losing key seniors (Parker Pounds and Fred Smith) from last season's state champion roster. No worries over here. Spight is a veteran with an offensive arsenal that's more-than-prepared to carry Briarcrest offensively. A season with him averaging 20 points per game should be enough production with top junior wing [player_tooltip player_id='2194485' first='Joshua' last='Huggins'] on the roster.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2133797' first='Bryson' last='Wade'], Brentwood Academy: The Eagles should compete for a DII-AA state title, and [player_tooltip player_id='2133797' first='Bryson' last='Wade'] will have to play well for it to become a possibility. Wade is a point guard that's a two-way player. He's going to score points and dash out assists, while also making life difficult for the opposing team's point guard on the defensive end. Wade is a vocal leader that knows how to keep things in place when things are going good and bad. His presence on the floor is much-needed for a Brentwood Academy team that checks every box a contender needs to check.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2571711' first='Christian' last='Blivens'], Lipscomb Academy: [player_tooltip player_id='2571711' first='Christian' last='Blivens'] is shifty and difficult to stay in front of when he's able to get downhill. His paint touches will open things up for the Mustangs offense. Blivens' ability to break down defenses and get to the rim off a handful of dribbles should be on display from the start of the 2026 season. His quickness and athleticism places him as a must-see prospect in the league. Blivens is a double-digit scorer that's going to be efficient for a Lipscomb Academy team that's going to space the floor.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2236659' first='Anthony' last='Wiggins'], Pope Prep: [player_tooltip player_id='2236659' first='Anthony' last='Wiggins'] is the most experienced guard returning for the Knights, and he will have to lead the group. The good thing is Wiggins has a lot of varsity experience to step into the No. 1 role. Just a season ago, Wiggins averaged 10.3 points, which was fourth on the team. After losing Trey Pearson, Osby Cavin, and Jarron Talley, Pope Prep will look for Wiggins each night to lead the team in scoring. He's a good ball handler, shifty, crafty, and knows how to finish around the rim. Wiggins can make shots from the perimeter. He's a pest on defense. Wiggins averaged 1.7 steals per game last season. This could be a big statistical season for the senior.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2550772' first='Travis' last='Martin'], Knoxville Catholic: Similar to Wiggins, [player_tooltip player_id='2550772' first='Travis' last='Martin'] will have to carry a heavier load offensively after the Fighting Irish lost their top two leading scorers - Cade Murphy (20.2) and Malachi Brown (15.9) - from last season's team that finished 24-7 and went to the Final Four of the TSSAA DII-AA Boys' State Tournament. Martin is a 6-foot-2 point guard that knows how to finish through contact. He's a good decision maker and reliable ball handler. Just last season, Martin averaged 6.9 assists per game. Knoxville Catholic is in good hands with him at the helm.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
