CoBL Interstate Shootout: PA 2027 Stock-risers

City of Basketball Love hosted its annual fall Interstate Shootout this past weekend, bringing in nearly 120 teams from five states to compete over a stacked two days of action in Philly. Keep reading for a look at several 2027's who boosted their stock over the course of the weekend.    Consistently among the hardest-playing guys in the area, Hopkins is also seemingly always among the most improved, adding pieces to his game with seemingly each viewing. On Saturday, he looked far more advanced than ever before operating out on the perimeter not just as a dribble-handoff hub but as a legitimate slasher from the wing with flashes of dynamic catch-and-shoot ability. It can be hard to believe when watching Hopkins today that just a short time ago he was an undersized '5' without much of a skillset to hang his hat on. While still somewhat of a tweener, Hopkins brings a blend of physical tools, motor, and capacity for improvement that makes it hard to put a ceiling on what he could become as he continues to develop.     For the second straight weekend, Thompson made a loud statement that he'll be among the most improved players in the Catholic League. An electric two-way guard with dynamic open-floor speed, he shows a great nose for the rim with enough of a handle to get himself there off the bounce, particularly in the open floor. Where Thompson opened eyes most this weekend was on the other end, where he showed he could really light up the ball at the point of attack, at one point forcing consecutive turnovers at midcourt to spark dunks going the other way. It looks increasingly like Thompson will be a consistent double-figure scorer for the Raiders this year and scholarship-level programs may want to get him on their radar to evaluate this winter.     Freeman has been among the more intriguing 2027's in the smaller classifications of District 1 for some time now, but looks ready to put all the pieces together heading into what should be a big senior season. A dynamic athlete with positional versatility along the perimeter, Freeman spent time both initiating offesne and attacking from the wing, consistently using his quick first step and slithery footwork to work into the lane for swift finishes. He shows capable passing ability when he draws help defenders and is able to keep defenses honest with his perimeter jumper if given time and space. Realistically, Freeman is overdue for inclusion in the state rankings and should make a healthy debut in the next update as he continues to trend upwards.     Yard's progression over the years has been quiet and steady, but there was nothing quiet about his Saturday evening performance for the Aces. The senior wing guard was absolutely on fire, connecting on a flurry of jumpers from beyond the arc while showcasing a smooth and repeatable catch-and-shoot stroke. He plays a clean, high-IQ complementary game as a crisp passer and emerging option as a secondary ballhandler. Yard is also continuing to blossom physically and athletically, opening up some intriguing upside particularly with his plan to take a post-grad year after finishing up at LM.     Downingtown West put on a dominant performance in a win over Woodbury (NJ) and it was Whitfield Jr. mostly leading the way from the backcourt. Stepping into a leadership role as a senior, he impressed with his ability to play both on and off the ball with promising length and the ability to create his own shot on command. He was also effective as a setup man, helping feed his bigs consistently for easy looks. Whitfield has nice size for his position with a long, youthful frame that looks like it should continue developing nicely into college. He looks like he should blossom into a priority for small-college programs and potentially also prep schools this winter, and could even be an interesting late flier at the scholarship level depending on how quickly he continues to develop.     Part of a revamped GA program that looks ready to make another step forward this season, Reckner looks to be among the most improved players in the area with still more upside left to tap into. He's impressed in the past with his simple blend of size and shotmaking, but showed a new element on Sunday with his ability to initiate offense as a ballhandler and see the floor at a high level as a passer. Reckner is extremely young for his grade and coming off a significant growth spurt, giving him a wide range of potential outcomes. High-academic programs of all levels should be monitoring his progress closely into the winter.
