<p>Farmington was 18-11 last season and lost to Sandia in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs. The Scorpions will have a new look in 2026-27 since their top five scorers all graduated. That quintet, which included the high-scoring Griego brothers, accounted for 83.4 percent of Farmington's scoring a season ago.</p>

<p>“We graduated eight players after last season, so we're going to have a brand new team this year,” Farmington head coach Larry Don Chitty told Prep Hoops New Mexico. “We could be young and small. By the end of the summer, we saw a lot of progress.” </p>

<p><strong>PLAYERS TO WATCH</strong></p>

<p><strong>Keondre Black (Jr., 5-11, G)</strong>: Appeared in 27 varsity games as a sophomore last season. Farmington's top returning scorer (3.8 ppg). Excellent shooter. Shot 48 percent from the field overall and 44 percent (25-57) from 3-point range last season. He'll take on a much larger role in 2026-27. “Keondre could be our leading scorer,” Chitty said. “He can shoot the lights out. He's looking good.”</p>

<p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2846704' first='Kannon' last='Moore'] (Jr., 5-9, G)</strong>: Appeared in four varsity games last season. Played mostly JV. After a superb summer, he seems ready to take on a major role for the Scorpions varsity. “Kannon is solid,” Chitty said. “People have noticed him already. He's a smaller guard, but he can really play. He can get to the rim and he can shoot. He handles the ball very well. He does a lot. Great kid too.”</p>

<p><strong>Tayden Adson (So., 5-9, G)</strong>: The third guard in Farmington's three-guard offense. Appeared in 16 varsity games as a freshman in 2025-26. Southpaw. “Tayden could be our best player,” Chitty said. “He's a very good ball handler and a very good finisher at the rim. His jump shot is coming along. With our three guards, the ball moves well and they move well. We're really going to rely on them. We will go as far as they can take us.” </p>

<p><strong>Aavrey Carlson (Sr., 6-4, F/C)</strong>: Appeared in 12 varsity games last season. Averaged 2.1 points in limited action, Looking to emerge as Farmington's top presence on the forward line.</p>

<p><strong>Rock Kalcich (Sr., 6-2, F)</strong>: Quarterback on the Scorpions football team. Came off the bench last season and averaged close to 3 points per game. Likely have a bigger role in 2025-26. “Rock is going to be one of our leaders,” Chitty said. “He played a lot last season. He understands what's going on. He'll be a starter and be our linchpin. He's athletic and very smart, He understands the game.”</p>

<p><strong>Greyson Gross (Sr., 6-2, F)</strong>: Appeared in 15 varsity games last season. Good athleticism. One of the Scorpions' best leapers. Good rebounder and shot blocker. “The key for us is who we put around those three guards,” Chitty said. </p>

<p><strong>KEY NEWCOMERS</strong></p>

<p><strong>Jeremy Small (Jr., 6-5, F)</strong>: Missed the entire 2025-26 season with a knee injury. Played on the Scorpions freshman team in 2024-25. Brings good height to the front line. “We don't know what we're going to get from Jeremy,” Chitty said. “We'll see what he gives us. Before he got hurt, he was coming along nicely.” </p>

<p><strong>Braden Castelli (Sr., G)</strong>: Played JV last season. Expected to be a role player off the bench.</p>

<p>Farmington competes in District 5A-1 with Cleveland, Piedra Vista, Rio Rancho and Volcano Vista. The Scorpions open the 2026-27 season on Nov. 24 against Aztec. Four days later, they'll host Kirtland Central on Thanksgiving weekend. After those two games, the Scorpions will compete in a Tournament in Santa Fe and play at Bloomfield. They will host their own tournament in December before Christmas. Chitty said Volcano Vista and Sandia have committed to participate in that tournament. Post-Christmas, they'll make the long trip to Hobbs for the Eagles' tournament.</p>
