We recently updated our class of 2029 rankings in the state of Virginia, going to 100 prospects from across the state we believe will be players to keep an eye on moving forward. Obviously the list is very new and will change plenty over the next three seasons, but for now here's a look at part two of some of the top young prospects in the Richmond area.

#29) Isaiah Shelton | 6'7” PF | Trinity Episcopal

Shelton is definitely a player to watch for a TES team that will be one of the top teams in the Richmond area this year, and his versatility is going to be a big reason why as he creates such a mismatch with his inside-out game. At 6'7” he's got a big frame that demands a double team in the paint, he is great in ball screens as a pick-and-pop guy or as a trail man that can knock it down from deep, he has great touch from multiple levels and is able to make tough shots, and as he sure his body up moving forward he's going to get a lot more explosive as well.

#43) Jacob Saunders | 6'2” CG | LC Bird

Saunders had a great freshman season at Clover Hill and transferred to LC Bird this summer, and he'll be part of one of the top backcourts in the area and is one of the more intriguing guards in the Richmond area regardless of class. The 6'2” combo has good positional size and is quick and shifty off the bounce, he can fill it up from all over working both on and off the ball, he can work off the ball and knock it down or make reads off of screens, and he is a good playmaker as well.

#45) Locke Bailey | 6'2” SG | Banner Christian

Bailey had a great freshman season at Banner Christian where he was one of their top players on the way to a VISAA D-IV state championship, and he has a lot of tools that are intriguing as he continues to develop. He is already a strong wing with the ability to get downhill and play through contact, he can knock down open shots from deep and is good when he gets to his midrange, he rebounds well for his size and position, and he simply makes winning plays on both ends of the floor,

#47) Elijah Wright | 6'3” SG | Carmel School

Carmel School has been a sleeper program in the Richmond area with a lot of success in the VISAA D-III division over the past few years, and Wright is one of the more impressive and intriguing prospects they've had in that time. The 6'3” guard has good positional size and a good frame with long arms, he can score the ball working on and off the ball, he has a high IQ working screens whether it's coming off them to get open working off the ball or working a ball screen with the ball in his hands, and his all-around skillset allows him to impact the game across the board on both ends of the floor.

#50) Eli Quaye | 5'10” PG | LC Bird

Quaye played his way into a big role for the Skyhawks as a freshman, and while they had one of the best backcourts in the area his natural talent and ability shined and showed a lot of upside as the continues to grow and develop over the next few years. The 5'10” guard is a natural scoring threat who can light it up from deep when he's working off the ball, he is shifty and gets in the lane at will when he's on the ball, he has the ability to finish over bigger defenders and make plays for others, and if he continues to grow the way we expect him to he has a chance to be one of the top guards in the area,

#56) James “LJ” Johnson | 6'1” CG | Varina

Johnson is a part of a very talented young core for Varina that will be one to watch in the next few years, and he's one of the more intriguing young guards in the Richmond area with his ability to play both backcourt positions and impact the game on both ends of the floor. He's able to handle pressure and has good feel as a playmaker in the open floor and when he gets in the lane, he can create space and knock down shots from all three levels, he uses his length to get deflections and challenge shots defensively, and he is already a good athlete who will only get better as he continues to grow into his body.

#84) Chris Harris | 6'0” PG | Benedictine

Harris is a player that could move way up this list as he continues to develop, as he had a breakout season at Midlothian last year before transferring to Benedictine and reclassifying to the 2029 class, and he has a chance to learn from some very good upperclassmen this year, The 6'0” lead guard has all the qualities you want in a floor general as he has great feel and is able to run the show getting his team into their sets, he is very good in ball screens as someone who can exploit mismatches and has the ability to deliver passes to rollers and kick to wings, he can score it from multiple levels off the bounce, and he has a competitive chip that is infectious to the rest of his team too.
