Summer standouts that we want at the Freshman Showcase

This gives us another opportunity to see them and put in their stamp against their class. He stood out then, and we want to see if there's more to his game. He scored efficiently, played under control and consistently made smart decisions, and those are the things that could really put you in a good spot heading into the season. What we liked about his game this summer was how he stepped up on both ends of the floor. He defended at a high level, rotated defensively, played both on and off ball, and made the extra play. Those are basketball intangibles that stick, but we also know what that looks like in a controlled environment. That's exactly why the Freshman Showcase is such a good opportunity. He checked off plenty of boxes on my first watch as a defensive anchor who plays through contact, gave opposing bigs problems with his size, and he also isn't a player who is limited to just one thing. He mixed it up a bit and did a bit of everything. He put the ball on the floor when defenders got close, finished through bodies, and controlled the glass on both ends. He battled for positions, he boxed out and did the little things, and never gave up on plays, and that motor and competitiveness is a separator. He got boards and went right back up, and made opponents have to work for everything they got. They say he's a three-level scorer who gets hot and a two-way standout who impacts the game, and we want to see if the hype is true by having him out at the showcase. A big performance there could catapult him onto the rankings, and he may even be able to make a push of some varsity minutes this year, so this could be an opportunity for us to get eyes on him.
