Sophomore Showcase: Guards and Playmakers Make Their Mark

The Louisiana Sophomore Showcase gave some of the state's rising Class of 2029 prospects another opportunity to put their games on display. From explosive athletes and dynamic scorers to polished guards and next-level playmakers, several prospects made strong impressions throughout the event. Here is a look at five players who stood out during the showcase.    We got our first look at Gallow in person, and his size immediately stood out. He looks even bigger in person, while his athleticism jumps right off the page. Gallow is a rim-running guard who finishes above the rim with ease and brings an explosive element to the floor.He consistently got to his spots and knocked down nearly every shot he took. With his combination of size, athleticism, scoring ability and confidence, Gallow possesses the skill set of an elite player. He has all the tools to continue climbing the prospect landscape as his game develops.     Banks has a polished game and moves with the poise of a college-level player. He is hardworking, skilled and comfortable operating both on and off the ball. With a strong basketball frame and a mature approach to the game, Banks consistently looks comfortable and in control on the court.His mid-range game was especially impressive and showed the amount of work he has put into developing his shot. Banks has next-level size and skill for the guard position, and his combination of poise, physical tools and overall polish gives him a high ceiling moving forward.     Barber stepped into his explosiveness and put it on display during 5-on-5 play. He consistently ran the floor, found opportunities to score and made an impact in transition. Barber has a polished handle and moves around the court with ease. He can shoot the basketball at a high level and has the ability to shift defenders and create space. As his body continues to develop and he grows into his physical tools, Barber has the potential to become a lead contributor for Zachary in the future.     Bright did what he does best: score the basketball. He consistently found ways to put points on the board and made the game look easy. His quick first step allows him to get past defenders, while his creativity around the basket makes him a difficult matchup. He can finish with either hand and continues to show confidence every time he steps on the floor.His position in the rankings remains solid, and his confidence continues to drive his game. Until opponents prove they can consistently slow him down, Bright will remain one of the toughest guards in the class to contain. He has the potential to become a major piece for Northshore this season.     Cotton had a solid showing and demonstrated his ability to impact the game both on and off the ball. He is a feisty guard with a quick burst of speed that allows him to get past defenders, while also defending at a high level and frustrating bigger guards. He plays aggressively, competes on every possession and takes every play seriously. Cotton is a locked-in true point guard with the ability to control the game with plenty of next-level skills. His motor, toughness and ability to affect the game on both ends make him another Class of 2028 prospect to continue watching.    The Sophomore Showcase featured a talented group of Class of 2028 prospects, and these players demonstrated why the future of Louisiana basketball remains in good hands. Each prospect brought a different skill set to the floor, whether it was explosive athleticism, polished guard play, scoring ability or defensive toughness. As they continue to develop physically and gain more experience at the high school level, expect these names to remain part of the conversation and continue making noise across the Louisiana prospect landscape.
