With the grassroots season in the rearview, it's now time to set our sights on the high school season. Before we know it, students will be back in school and fall workout season will be upon us. It's time to shift gears and break down some of the prospects to monitor this winter and no better way than tracking the transfers to either remained in the area and chose to make a move across town or ones that are new to the scene. Even though it's the beginning of August, we'll see a few more transfers become official over the next week or two. For now, below are some of the impact transfer guards who will be significant adds to their respective programs.

Hopkins is a name that the majority of DMV fans aren't aware of now, but it won't take long for him to build a quick reputation as he makes his way to the area from Oklahoma. A 6'1" lead guard with some of the more explosive athleticism you'll see in the local high school scene, Hopkins was a stock riser on the PRO16 Circuit with Southern Ties and looks to compound that momentum under head coach Lafayette Dublin on The Grind Session. Hopkins is quick, dynamic and a two-way presence. With sustained productivity, he could be significant riser in the next rankings update based off his body of work this summer. He received 12 Division I offers in the month of July alone.

Wood is ranked in our top 20 and for good reason as he made an impact playing with Team Thrill MHC 17s that would eventually turn into a bump up to the UAA Circuit roster. A physical downhill guard who can play through contact and use his blend of strength and athleticism in the open floor, Wood will take his talents to Poly where he should shine in the Baltimore City Public School scene. He's a dangerous shooter with space, a willing dirty work guy who will battle for boards or 50/50s and despite being at a new school, should emerge as a vocal leader. Depending on the success that Wood has at Poly, a post-grad prep year following this year could allow him to blossom into a legit Division I prospect.

Griffin return to Chase Street after making a couple of stops at Word of God (NC) and Gillion Academy (VA). What he brings to the lineup for head coach Nick Myles is a designated point guard who can dictate tempo on both sides of the ball from the point of attack. It allows Terence Jones III to toggle on and off the ball as a dynamic scoring combo guard as he enters this season as the top player in the Baltimore Metro Area. Griffin's experience against high-level competition puts the Panthers back in a strong spot to repeat as champions in the Baltimore Catholic League and as they usually do, rattle off a few wins out of the league that warrant national attention.

Springdale Prep has no shortage of backcourt talent, but adding McCullough to the mix only strengthens the depth and gives head coach Tyrone Johnson another dynamic on-ball presence with Jay Green. The early returns with the New York native in June were promising throughout DMV Live where not only did he mesh well with his new teammates, but has the moxie and command to assert himself both as a scorer and playmaker. He's a threat from all three levels of the floor, maneuvers through traffic with burst and a tight handle all while bringing the New York toughness and craft to his approach. McCullough averaged 10.6PPG efficient shooting splits of 50/50/83 while dishing out 3.6APG and 2.5RPG in his eight-game showing at DMV Live. More importantly, his best games from a statistical standpoint resulted in leading Springdale to big wins over quality opponents such as St. Frances and Mt. Zion (National).

Minor belongs in the same conversation as Hopkins when you talk about MD/DC stock rising guards in the 2027 class. He made the move from Team Loaded to New World and proved to be a missing piece as a floor general who could impact the box score in a handful of ways. Minor led New World to a Sweet 16 appearance and while they came up short to a surging ASAK Elite group, Minor refused to go out quietly by wrapping up his 3SSB career with a consolation win over Compton Magic. As for his senior season, Minor will suit up for PGCA after spending last season at Mt. Zion (National) where he put together a couple of strong performances on The Grind Session. If the level of confidence that he ended his grassroots career with translates to the high school season, PGCA will be a prominent team in the DMV landscape.
