CHSAA “A” MVP Candidates

The highly decorated Senior returns for another season with the Vikings and expectations are sky high. He's the current favorite because he averaged over 20 a game last year, he's gotten even better in the spring and has tremendous chemistry with his Head Coach Mike Cortese. His biggest goal will be to help Sea win a championship but during the year he should become their all time leader scorer and see his recruitment continue to ascend.     Wilkinson is a double double machine that's a matchup nightmare for forwards in this league. He's got nice touch around the rim, he crashes the boards, sets hard screens and always brings energy. His role and confidence have been growing at Edmunds through out his career and he looks ready his best season yet.     The St. John's Prep program will always have a contender in the mix and with a lot of their fire power graduating it was a tough call on who to choose. Tryfonos had a solid role last year, he hit shots, helped provide minutes in the back court and improved throughout the season. This year his Head Coach John Kiggins is really high on his potential, his role should really see a big bump, he will be asked to help the offense even more. He's at a place where the standard is high but if he can have the type of the success he's capable of SJP should right be in the title game.     Hanley is the most underrated prospect in the A division. He may never be the favorite to win the MVP award but at the end of the season if Farrell's in championship game, he'll be a huge reason why. He can score in a variety of ways, he's great on the boards, has good footwork and values winning. The Senior forward is easy to play with, he communicates well, has a good feel for the game and should put up really good numbers.     Lewis was a monster for St. Edmund's Prep as a Junior and is back for another big year. He should stuff the stat sheet for the Eagles, he's their lead guard, main decision maker and a captain. This Senior is capable of leading the league in scoring, three pointers and steals but that's all up to Lewis. His upside has always been intriguing especially when he's impacting the game on defense.     Leahy was very productive as a Junior, he followed it up with a strong summer and is ready to keep that momentum going. His size, basketball IQ, shot making ability and inside/out game are impressive. He's always in the right spot, he makes the extra pass, knocks down threes and isn't afraid of a challenge. Think his final year at Xavier will be a good one and he definitely will be collecting a bunch of accolades.      Mitchell is easily one of my favorite guards in the A division because of his offensive skillset, ability to play the point guard position and his on ball defense. He's a complete player, he can effect the game on both ends, he's unselfish and gets better in clutch time. Love his willingness to dive on the floor, he plays with passion, he's coachable and once his consistency catches up to his game everyone's in trouble.
