University of Oregon Team Camp - Stock Risers

The University of Oregon held its team camp the final weekend of June, and as always teams from all over the state from all classifications arrived in Eugene ready to compete. We love attending the event every year as it gives us a chance to see some of the teams from Central and Southern Oregon that we don't normally see as often as those from the Portland metro area. Here's a look at some of the performers that proved themselves as stock risers during camp.    Having been more of a main option previously this summer, with star guards [player_tooltip player_id='2026057' first='Braylon' last='Gaines'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2026060' first='Jaydon' last='Schregardus'] both in action, Cantwell settled just as nicely into a support role. In an intense win over Ridgeview, the rising senior wing was still dropping threes and getting other buckets inside the arc as well. When the dust settled, he finished with 17 points.     In a big win over North Salem, Gilles shined in multiple phases of the game. The rising senior certainly got to the basket and showcased his athleticism, especially in transition, scoring 15 points. But what the wing also displayed was his value in other areas as he hit the boards with 6 rebounds and also effectively shared the ball by dishing out 8 assists.     We made it a priority to watch Pacheco after hearing he had dropped 30+ points in an earlier game at UO Team Camp. While the scoring wasn't as prolific in the game we watched against Eureka (CA) - the rising sophomore point guard only hit one three - but what impressed us was his near-flawless floor leadership. He constantly made great decisions with the basketball, found open teammates in the halfcourt and in transition, and finished with 7 assists and zero turnovers.     With his length and ability to run the floor, Campbell excelled with his rim protection in the action we saw on Friday. While he may not always necessarily block the shots, his presence around the hoop certainly affected shot attempts both taken and not taken by opponents. Offensively he capably showed he had a nice touch from mid-range and he finished well around the basket. 11 points and 5 rebounds in a win over Silverton.     Guyton has moved over to McDaniel for his senior season and from what we saw at UO Team Camp, he's going to be making an instant impact. The shifty guard can really create off the dribble and for the Mountain Lions in a win over Creswell, he had great bursts of offense, putting points on the board in a hurry posting 13 points all in the first part of the second half. He has great quickness and potential as an on-the-ball defensive pest.     Now at Crater, Pool was quite a handful for defenses to try and contain when he was on the floor. The pure size of the rising senior big man was in and of itself a huge advantage and he also showed off a nice soft touch around the hoop in the action that we saw. As his conditioning improves, his court time will increase allowing him to be a dominant force in the paint for the Comets.
