Underrated 2027 NOVA Guards Coaches Should Check Out (Part 2)

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With the summer coming to an end, we decided to take a look at some of the top underrated players that college coaches should be watching for heading into the season. Here's a look at six guards in the Northern VA area that aren't getting the love that they deserve from coaches.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2898057' first='Mateo' last='Alvarado-Gallego'] | 5'11” PG | Chantilly</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Alvarado-Gallego is coming off a big season at Chantilly where he was an All District selection as a junior, and should be one of the top lead guards in NOVA public schools as a senior. He's a throwback style floor general who can run the show and control the game with his handle and playmaking. He can knock down shots from deep on or off the ball, he is a crafty finisher over bigger defenders at the rim, and he makes winning plays on both ends of the floor too.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3499719' first='Brady' last='Conklin'] | 6'0” PG | Woodson</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":3588979,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/04/Conklin-Brady.jpg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/04/Conklin-Brady.jpg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-3588979" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Conklin was one of the biggest breakout players in NOVA last season after coming in and taking over the reigns at Woodson, and he's set to lead Woodson on another deep playoff run after the summer he's had. The 6'0” lead guard is one of the more skilled and well rounded guards you'll come across, as he can impact the game in a lot of different ways. He plays with great pace and can get to spots off the bounce, he's a three level scorer who can play on or off the ball, he has great vision and command of the game, and he's a scrappy defender as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2898069' first='Trey' last='Thompson'] | 5'11” PG | Fauquier</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Thompson quietly has had a very good career at Fauquier over the last few years, and he had a big summer with Higher Level where he had some great showings against some top teams. The 5'11” lefty is a big time athlete who thrives when he gets out in transition with his finishing ability, he can score the ball from all three levels off the bounce and off the catch, he's a very good defender both on the ball and in help side, and he can make plays for others as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2815368' first='Maddox' last='Davis'] | 5'11” PG | Centreville</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Much like his older brother Jaxson who was a standout at Centreville and now at Roanoke, Davis is a walking bucket who is a ton of fun to watch and can flat out fill it up in a lot of different ways. The 5'11” guard is super shifty and can work in isolation or use a ball screen to create space, he can drill it from deep off the catch and off the bounce, he can get downhill and is a crafty finisher at the rim, and he can make plays for others when defenses hone in as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2371338' first='Gavin' last='Bermudez'] | 6'0” PG | Fairfax</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bermudez is as reliable of a connector as you will fine in NOVA, as he can play in different roles and is a highly efficient and productive player. He can space the floor and knock it down from deep at a high clip, he is a good ball handler who can handle pressure and make plays for others, and he plays with a high motor and a lot of toughness on both ends of the floor.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2788037' first='Kevin' last='Reyes'] | 6'3” CG | Stone Bridge</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Reyes has emerged as one of the top overall guards in NOVA public schools, as he's been handing out buckets and dishing out dimes since he became their go-to guy his sophomore year. He keeps the ball on a string and gets wherever he wants to off the bounce, he is excellent in ball screens with the ability to recognize and create mismatches, he can score the ball from all three levels efficiently, and he has great vision and the ability to thread the needle as a passer and playmaker.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
