USE CODE “baxley30” FOR 30% OFF THE FIRST PURCHASE OF ANY SUBSCRIPTION

The 15U division at UAA Session 3 featured no shortage of talent, with young prospects from North and South Carolina making the most of their opportunities on a national stage. Whether it was consistent playmaking, high-level shooting, or all-around huslle plays, several players separated themselves on Friday. Here's a look at the 15U standouts who caught my attention:

Leading off my 15U standouts from UAA Session 3 is [player_tooltip player_id='3693618' first='Easton' last='Powell']. This is a new name I learned last week, and one with some intrigue in the backcourt going forward. Easton was one of several [program_tooltip program_id='2076394' first='Carolina' last='Premier'] shooters to have big games against All In Elite, and he was the one who started strongest to help his squad build a big lead. Both of his two first-quarter made threes came off the catch, providing some early space for his ball-dominant guards and bigs to work. Powell also impressed with his defensive instincts and intensity, showing a great feel for forcing turnovers and a desire to make winning plays on that end.

Eli is another shooter who caught fire on Friday. He erupted with 6 3PM in the win over All In Elite, punishing defenses almost every time he caught the ball. Whether it was directly off a catch, on the move, off the dribble, or in transition, Howard truly was a deadly perimeter weapon for this high-powered offense. His teammates also know when he's in the zone, and he has the freedom of unlimited shots, although he only took 12 in this game. Along with the game-high 21 points, Eli also helped out on the defensive glass, racking up 7 rebounds.

One of the reasons behind the two [program_tooltip program_id='2076394' first='Carolina' last='Premier'] shooters having big games was the play of their Point Guard, [player_tooltip player_id='2970405' first='R'Javion' last='Booker']. He went for 11 points and 7 assists against All In Elite. Booker was at his best, setting up his teammates first and looking to score the ball second. He looked to get all his outside guys going early, with his first 4 assists being on made threes. That opened up more space for him to drive, where he could finish himself or dump off to the big man. R'Javion is as good at finishing with his strong hand as any of South Carolina's 2029 guards, so that, along with his pace and playmaking upside, is why he is so highly-ranked this early.

The other 15U squad who represented the Carolinas that I checked out this weekend was [program_tooltip program_id='2225832' first='Top' last='Shot Basketball']. [player_tooltip player_id='3664237' first='Anthony' last='Davis'] is one of their top-ranked 2029s, and he was impressive against Blue Chips Gulf Coast on Friday. Anthony did a little bit of everything: create turnovers, affect shots, knock down jumpers off the dribble, and set up teammates. His 13 points might stand out most on the stat sheet, but it was the culmination of all the things that he did well that was most impactful for his team. As he continues to grow and learn the game, Davis will easily be a successful, well-rounded guard.

[player_tooltip player_id='3664233' first='Mark' last='Mahoney'] caps off the list of 15U standouts from UAA Session 3. Mark is a true hustle guy, and despite his size, he's never seen an offensive rebound opportunity he didn't like. He was the first to react to loose balls almost all game long and often made plays to swing momentum for his team. All 6 of his points came from the free-throw line or the second-chance department, so once he becomes a knockdown perimeter shooter, Mahoney will be a key player for Top Shot down the line.
