It was time to revisit the Class of 2028 rankings as July wrapped and adjust to account for the player's growth or stagnation. Rankings are subjective and PrepHoops.com/Tennessee (@CourtneyHoops90 + @AndrewForce8) ranks purely upon potential and where the player will be at their basketball peak. Production factors in only when helping prove the potential is greater or lesser. Why did we rank these guys? Why are they at this spot? Take a look at several Class of 2028 prospects and learn a little about their reputation.
The following players are now ranked in the Top 110 statewide (LEFT-new rank).
#106 Ben Cross Ben Cross 5'11" | PG/SG TN (Knoxville Central)
The Central Bobcats feature a couple solid guards of which Ben Cross Ben Cross 5'11" | PG/SG TN is one of them. Ben never switches off and uses his quick legs to be a disruptive off ball defender. Ben moves the hushpuppies quickly enough to a plus high school defender. He could also thrive as a front man in the 2-3 zone. Like most high school underclassmen Ben needs to gain good weight and get stronger physically. As a defender Ben truly is a menace. Quick hands. Quick feet. He fights like an alleycat.
#107 Zious Whaley Zious Whaley 5'10" | PG Baylor School | 2028 State TN (Baylor School)
Burly guard. Zious could play either guard position but will largely operate as the 2-guard or even wing forward this season. For the entirety of his high school career Zious has been an exceptional "shoulder" slasher. He gets guys on his shoulder and rides them to the rim. Finishes best with his dominant left hand. Whaley's older brother played point guard. Zious is getting better and better running the show. His body type and left-hand prowess reminds a bit of Ty Glasper though outside shooting is a long way from Gatlinburg-Pittman's All-Time Leading Scorer at the moment.

Tristan Futrell earned District Freshman of the Year in 2024-2025 launching his name into the ether. During that magical season Triston buried an astonishing 95 three-pointers! From there Futrell kept improving. Now the thin guard is the team's best outside shooter. He thrives in a catch-and-shoot capacity. Next steps are adding muscle and getting himself to the free throw line more often.

splashed onto our scene way back in June of 2024. He is more athletic now thanks to both the natural physical maturity and some work in the weight room. Ogle plays both basketball and football for Giles County. He likes to drive to the right with the ball bouncing from his left hand. Beautiful high release point on the jumper.
Read Ogle's evaluation from June 2024 -- "Good understanding of floor spacing. At times he played a little timid, but not any more than expected. Ogle was one of the two youngest campers and that he competed at all shows a mental toughness that will carry him for years. Light on his feet. Outstanding Lane Agility times. Excellent utilization of the pump fake. When he got to the low block he demonstrated a fantastic poise."

ran the floor elegantly with Top Shot 16u this past summer. He consistently finished above the rim at 6-foot-6. It will be intriguing to see him in a high school basketball setting next where slashing and shooting are challenged more effectively.
Read about Rory's game in his own words.
I'm 6'5” with athleticism, strength, and a high motor, and I take pride in impacting the game on both ends of the floor. I'm known for my toughness, rebounding, interior defense, and ability to finish strong around the rim. I embrace making the plays that help my team win.
I'm a coachable, disciplined, and team-first player who brings energy and consistency every time I step on the court. I'm constantly working to expand my offensive skill set, improve my IQ, and become a more complete player. My goal is to continue competing at the next level and grow both athletically and academically. - Rory Cawthon IIIRory Cawthon III 6'6" | PF Hillsboro | 2028 State TN on Rory Cawthon III
