NW Summer Sizzle - Top Performers (I)

The HoopSource NW Summer Sizzle took place the weekend of July 17-19 at various high schools across the Portland Metro Area. We had the opportunity to drop by Hillsboro High School for the top bracket of the 17U/18U division and here are some of the top performers we saw on Sunday.    One of the things that makes Sanders one of our favorite players in the Class of 2028 is how he makes a difference on the court without scoring. So while he did end up scoring in double figures with 11 points in a win on Sunday morning for the eventual champs [program_tooltip program_id='3645865' first='Oregon' last='Hoopers'], the impact he had on the game was in areas beyond the scoreboard. The rising Grant junior wing hit the glass hard and as always, was a dog on defense, relentlessly picking up his assignment all over the court and using his length to disrupt passing lanes and block shots. The result was contributions in every category - 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, and a couple of rejections.     There's no question that Jackson is a proven bucket-getter. The rising Jefferson junior shoots it with range and easily creates his own shot off the dribble. But where he impressed us in helping the [program_tooltip program_id='3645865' first='Oregon' last='Hoopers'] to a win on Sunday was with his passing and decision making. Jackson regularly looked to set up teammates in both the halfcourt and transiton settings, making clean passes for easy buckets. He balanced it well with his own scoring, finishing with 10 points and 5 assists.     Arguably one of the most explosive scorers we saw all summer, Ochoa lit up the scoreboard in G-Elite's first game on Sunday at the NW Summer Sizzle with 23 points - and they were all in the first half. The rising Mountain senior guard did it all - drop daggers from deep, pull up off the dribble, and finish around the hoop in various ways. On one fast break, he pulled out a smooth EuroStep from his bag for the easy duece. An injury hampered him the second half but the damage was clearly done in the win.     There will be opportunity for guys to step up this upcoming season at Summit and based on what we've seen from Hill this summer, the rising senior will be up to the task. At the NW Summer Sizze, he was aggressive with his shot offensively, starting off by knocking down shots from deep which then led to him creating off the bounce. Hill also flashed his clutch gene as his catch-and-shoot corner three with just seconds remaining helped [program_tooltip program_id='2248658' first='Boss' last='Basketball'] finish off the tournament with a win.     Great game from Buffalo-Ball in a win by [program_tooltip program_id='2248658' first='Boss' last='Basketball'] on Sunday at the NW Summer Sizzle. The rising senior lead guard was in control of the basketball whenever he had it in his hands, and his ability to play with pace left defenders at his mercy. He executed with patience, capably finding holes in the defense and then choosing to attack the hoop for a number of finishes or drawing contact. When it was all said and done, he finished with 16 points and a handful of assists.
