Gibbs Summer League: Two-Way Difference Makers

The Gibbs Summer League featured plenty of talented scorers, but some of the most impactful players made their mark on both ends of the floor. Whether it was defensive versatility, athleticism, energy, or timely scoring, these five prospects consistently found ways to impact winning.    Blanding was one of the most exciting athletes in the summer league. The versatile wing lives above the rim and constantly found opportunities to cut to the basket and finish with authority. Defensively, his instincts stood out as he timed contests and blocks at a high level. His strong frame allows him to guard multiple positions, and during Week 2 he put together one of the more impressive all-around performances of the summer, showcasing his scoring ability while making highlight plays on the defensive end.     Oliver combines athleticism with skill and plays much bigger than his height. He attacks downhill fearlessly and finishes through contact around the basket. He also proved to be a reliable catch and shoot threat from the perimeter. Defensively, Oliver came up with plenty of steals that led to transition opportunities, where he was at his best. His relentless style of play allowed him to impact the game in a variety of ways.     Jenezon established himself as one of the top shooters in the county. He can knock down shots from well beyond the three point line and does so with impressive efficiency. His length also allows him to make an impact defensively, creating stops that often turn into easy offense. Jenezon moves well without the ball, cuts hard to the rim, and consistently finds ways to score easy baskets that add up throughout a game.     Johnson looks like a major addition for this St. Petersburg squad. The sophomore guard showed his ability to light it up from beyond the arc, highlighted by a 16 point performance during Week 3 of the summer league. He has a good handle and can create his own offense when attacking the basket. Johnson finishes well with either hand and isn't afraid to seek out contact at the rim. With his scoring ability and time for continued development, he has the potential to play a significant role for St. Petersburg this season.     Byrd embraces the challenge of guarding the opposing team's best player. The athletic wing uses his length and physical tools to defend multiple positions and make life difficult for opposing scorers. Offensively, he attacks the rim with force and looks to finish above it whenever possible. His effort, toughness, and energy consistently gave his team a boost throughout the summer league.
