2029 Rankings: SG/Wing Depth

We dropped our first edition of a <a href="https://prephoops.com/california/rankings/southern-california-rankings/socal-high-school-basketball-2029-class-player-rankings/">true ranking for Southern California's class of 2029</a> after giving then-freshmen and current sophomores-to-be a full high school and travel season to showcase their abilities. One of the trends that stood out to us the most while gathering and sorting the names is the depth this class has at the point guard spot. Below we break down the top five shooting guards and wings who cracked the list.    Acy checks in as our top wing in the 2029 class because of his combination of athleticism and physical tools. The 6-foot-6 rising sophomore, who transferred from Alemany to Chaminade in the spring, has broad shoulders, an impressive wingspan and fluidity asa. lane-filler and rim-runner in transition. Acy is one of those prospects who attacks the rim fearlessly and looks to dunk everything around the basket. When you add in his perimeter ball skills and flashes of high IQ passing/playmaking, you have a prototypical high-level wing prospect.     Mariles is one of the region's best shooters regardless of class and his ability to stretch the floor, combined with his high IQ as an off-ball mover, led to him starting as a freshman for the CIF State Division 1 champions. Mariles then rolled that experience over to the 16u level of 3SSB competition with Open Gym Premier where he averaged 11.3 points and shot 36 percent from the three-point line. The most underrated part of Mariles' game is his offensive IQ. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard is in constant motion without the ball, gets into his shooting mechanics quickly for off-movement jumpers and can really pass.     Sherwood is a do-it-all type of wing whose blend of size, strength and athleticism pairs well with his high motor and leads to two-way versatility and production. At 6-feet-6, Sherwood has shown the ability to guard multiple positions, rebound in and out of his area and impact the offensive end in a variety of ways. Sherwood averaged 13.1 points per game with Vegas Elite's 15u team and shot 36 percent from three on four attempts per game.     Micelli has an intriguing skill-set that translates well to the next level. The 6-foot-6 wing/forward is an elite floor-stretching presence off the catch who showed improved ball handling and rim attacking ability during the summer with his high school program. Micelli hits catch-and-shoot and trail threes with consistency and his combination of size and skill allows him to play the three and four spot offensively. Micelli led All In Elite's 15u squad in scoring at 16.4 points per game and shot 39 percent from three on six attempts per game.     McGhee is a prospect with a ton of natural ability to go along with elite quick-twitch athleticism and a long, wiry frame that projects well to the next level. The 6-foot-3 lefty is hyper aggressive when attacking the rim in transition and half-court offense. Right now in his development, McGhee is a slasher and finisher with a ton of upside to be tapped into. He averaged 11.6 points per game in his freshman campaign at Pacifica of Oxnard.
