We recently updated our 2028 class rankings in Virginia, adding over 25 names in a class that continues to get better it seems like every day. Here's a look at part two of the guards from the Northern VA area.

#44) Brandyn Edmonds | 6'0” PG | Episcopal

Edmonds is the younger brother of Episcopal senior Ben who has been a star for the last three years, and Brandyn transfers over after making a name for himself at Broad Run in Loudoun the last few years. He's a throw back style guard floor general who plays a tenacious and tough style of ball on both ends of the floor, he's deceptively strong and is very physical guardian the ball, he gets downhill to make plays for himself and others, and he sets the tone with his scrappy and energetic style for teammates to follow.

#67) Landon Scott | 6'1” CG | SSSAS

Scott is part of a deep SSSAS group in this class, and he is starting to play a more pivotal role every time we see him with this group. The 6'1” combo is a high IQ playmaker who sees the floor and can deliver tough passes on point to cutters and shooters, he can work off the ball where he can knock down open shots from multiple levels, he can get downhill and finish through contact, and he is solid on the defensive end too.

#68) Devan Howe | 6'1” PG | Gainesville

Howe and his Gainesville team were very impressive this past season, and he's a big reason why as he was one of their floor generals and is the type of player who will produce in different roles. He handles pressure very well beating the press and getting them into sets, he is excellent in ball screens and a guard who can touch the paint and make plays for himself and others, he's an efficient three level scorer who picks his spots, and he has great instincts on both ends of the floor.

#73) Campbell Tyler | 5'10” PG | Langley

Tyler is the type of guard that won't wow you with flashy plays or athleticism, and at times his numbers won't wow you either, but the production and value is something that will wow opponents and coaches. He's an old school floor general who controls tempo and has his hands all over the game, he picks his spots and knows when to turn it on and is very efficient as a shot maker, he makes everyone better with his vision and passing, and he is a natural leader on both ends too.

#84) Matthew Pritchard | 6'1” PG | Episcopal

Pritchard is another in a long line of players for Episcopal that I expect to have a breakout season, as the Maroons look like one of the top teams in the MAC this year. The 6'1” guard provides a change of pace for them as he can play both on or off the ball, he makes great decisions and the right play consistently, he can make open shots, and he does a lot of little things to help his team.

#86) Jack Cooligan | 6'1” PG | Paul VI

Cooligan may not get the big shine that some of the other players on this national powerhouse get, but that's partly because he's a big time baseball prospect, and if he was elsewhere like say a public school he'd likely be one of the best players on the team. He's a super crafty and heady guard who sees the game a few plays ahead, he plays with great pace and has good instincts on both ends of the floor, and he is the type of player who keeps the offense humming when they need him to take some minutes.

#96) Chase Jackson | 6'0” PG | Hayfield

Jackson had a breakout year in a deep young backcourt for Hayfield, and the way he's improved over the last few years makes me think it's just the beginning for him. He's shifty and crafty on the ball with the ability to change speeds and get downhill, he's a fluid athlete and thrives in transition, he can make shots from multiple levels, and he's a lefty which makes him a pain to guard throughout the game.

#107) Mark Edwards | 5'11” PG | South County

Edwards is a new addition to these rankings after a very good sophomore season where he just got better throughout the year, and he's the type of player you love to have and hate to play against. He's an all-out type of player who brings energy on both ends and fights for every 50-50 ball and rebound, he can pick you up full court and is relentless guarding the ball, he can knock down open shots, and he can score it within the flow of the offense without needing many plays called for him.

#119) Kristopher Bethell | 5'10” PG | Patriot

Bethell is the type of guard that is still developing, but already possesses so many traits you want in a lead guard and he's developing the right way as well. He's a high IQ guard who understands concepts and sees the floor well, he plays with great energy on the defensive end, he has a good first step and can break down the defense, and he's getting stronger and more confident scoring the ball too.
