We recently updated our 2028 class rankings in Virginia, adding over 25 names in a class that continues to get better it seems like every day. Here's a look at part two of the guards from the Southern/Central/Western area.

#57) [player_tooltip player_id='2919099' first='Patrick' last='Steptoe'] | 5'9” PG | Virginia Episcopal

Steptoe is an intriguing guard who had some big moments for VES this past year, and he's one of those players that if you're willing to let loose he can flat out boogie. While he's only 5'9” he is the type of guard who keeps it on a string and has a lightning quick first step to get by defenders, he can create and make tough shots from multiple levels, and he puts a ton of pressure on the defense with his speed and aggressiveness.

#59) [player_tooltip player_id='2548192' first='Ty' last='Martin'] | 6'2” PG | Graham

Martin is a name that teams are getting familiar with in SWVA, and he'll be the go-to guy for a Graham team that has been one of the best in the area over the last few years. The 6'2” lead guard is a stat sheet stuffer and an all-around guard who can score it in a lot of different ways, rebounds and defends well, pushes the tempo and plays with pace, and he can make his teammates better as well.

#60) [player_tooltip player_id='3659460' first='Christian' last='Hooks'] | 6'3” PG | Massaponax

Hooks is a player I could see rising in these rankings moving forward, as he has some of the best long term potential of anyone on this list. At 6'3” he's got great positional size and is a good athlete who can fly in transition, he has good wiggle and creates space with blow by ability off the bounce, he finishes well through traffic and can make tough shots from multiple levels, and he brings a lot of tenacity on the defensive end as well.

#68) [player_tooltip player_id='3554548' first='Elijah' last='Lacey'] | 5'9” PG | Mountain View

Another very good guard to watch for in the Fredericksburg area, Lacey may not be the biggest guy out there but he sure makes a big impact with his toughness and ability to make plays on both ends. He can absolutely fly with the ball in his hands and has a quick first step to get in the paint and break the defense down, he's equally dangerous as a scorer and a distributor when he gets downhill, he has the ability and feel to control the game, and he can set the tone defensively with his ball pressure.

#69) [player_tooltip player_id='3554549' first='Jasheem' last='Collins'] | 6'1” CG | Northampton

Collins had a huge sophomore season at Northampton putting up over 20 points per game and showing that while he may not be in a huge market he has a lot of tools coaches would be impressed with. He's dynamite in transition with his end-to-end speed with the ball, he's an explosive athlete that makes him a walking highlight reel when he gets above the rim, he's very good in ball screens putting pressure on the defense, and he can create space and score it from multiple levels as well.

#70) [player_tooltip player_id='2708973' first='Jason' last='Ross'] | 5'10” CG | Nelson County

Ross was a big part of Nelson County's deep run in the Class 2 tournament this past season, and he'll play an even bigger role next year when they look to get over the hump, and they'll need him for that. The 5'10” combo is a very good shot maker who can drill it from deep and get to spots in the midrange, he uses fakes well to draw contact or create openings to finish around the rim, he consistently makes the right read and play, and he plays with a great motor on both ends of the floor too.

#82) [player_tooltip player_id='2479654' first='Chaycen' last='Harman'] | 6'0”” CG | Floyd County

Harman switched to point guard this past season after playing mainly off the ball his freshman year, and it was a brilliant idea as he made the Buffaloes go and they went on a deep playoff run as a result. The 6'0” combo has a great understanding of the game and sees it happen before most players his age do, he can drill it from deep working both on and off the ball, he delivers tough passes and is crafty when he gets downhill to draw contact, and he plays with a toughness and motor any coach would love.
