The Rose City Showcase took place this past weekend as nine of the state's best teams came to the Cascade Campus of Portland Community College to battle it out for supremacy. We had the opportunity to drop by and catch a few games in the Gentlemen High School Varsity Elite division and here are some more of the top performers that we saw (note: we did not get a chance to see Central Catholic, Cleveland, or Gresham).

After playing this spring with Select Basketball, the transition over to school ball has been smooth for Mason, whose versatility offensively was clear in the game against Parkrose. The rising junior shot the ball well from the perimeter, was able to get to spots off the dribble, and finished well around the hoop, winding up with 18 points. But what really caught our eye was his passing. He showed good court vision and anticipation of teammates getting to the basket and delivered some nice dimes in transition for assists.

It's pretty evident that with his elite run-and-jump athleticism, Cogan is a highlight reel every time he steps on to the court. But what can't be stated enough is how much his motor adds to the mix. In Saturday night's tight loss to Parkrose, he was consistently making plays on the ball on both ends and as his ball skills and decision making continue to evolve, he'll be a major headache for opponents on the floor.

Gray has had a solid summer as he's grown physically and at the Rose City Showcase, he was able to show off his development. The rising sophomore was confident with the ball in his hands, pushing the pace in transition and running the offense with smarts in the half-court set. He shot the ball well from the perimeter and consistently made the right play. He finished with 12 points and 7 assists in a loss against Roosevelt.

In the Raiders close loss to Roosevelt, the rising senior swingman was one of the top performers as he used his athleticism and ability to make shots to not only post 13 points but grab a team-high 9 rebounds. A transfer from Centennial, Burnham should be an immediate contributor and one of the more underrated transfers in the Class of 2027.

Nelson's top scorer with 15 points in their loss to Benson at the Rose City Showcase was someone who caught our attention with his smooth lefty shooting stroke and maturity with his game. We came to find out this was none other than incoming freshman JP Sideris - which blew us away even more. Given the amount of playing time and skill he showed on the floor, it seems to us that Sideris could be one of the top members of the Class of 2030 coming in for next season.
