Fresno, CA - This past weekend, Friday, May 29th through Sunday, May 31st, I attended the annual Clovis North Nike Summer Showdown, one of the top events to kick off the Summer high school portion of the calendar year. This event hosted some of the top teams from the Fresno/Clovis area, as well as squads from NorCal, that is formatted with Pool Play for the first two days, and bracket play on Sunday. This article takes a look at 7 standout rising senior (class of 2027) prospects, with a part 2 to follow that looks at 7 more standout 2027s. I will then look at the top 2028 and 2029 standouts from the event. In this article you will find the following information: players name, height, position, school, and their skill sets. The players are listed in alphabetical order, not ranked order, and we begin with [player_tooltip player_id='2137370' first='Nick' last='Andreotti'] Jr.

[player_tooltip player_id='2137370' first='Nick' last='Andreotti'] Jr. (6'2 | CG) - Folsom (CA)

The 6'2 combo guard has solid handles, can space the floor from beyond the arc, and makes plays to get others involved. Andreotti has been one of the better known perimeter shooters since his freshman year, but has made serious strides in his lead guard skill set to make him a true combo guard, impacting the game playing on or off the ball. Andreotti keeps the ball on a string to survey the floor, has the court vision and decision making to find open teammates in tight windows off the drive and kick pass, out of the pick and roll action, or up the court in transition to players ahead of the defense. Andreotti has the moves to create space from his defender, using the crossover, hesitation, behind-cross, and toss-cross to get his defender off balance, moves fluidly off the ball to get to his shot spots, is accurate with the 3-ball off the bounce or the catch, and is a crafty scorer over height in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id='2629603' first='Djibi' last='Camara'] (6'8 | PF ) - Destiny Christian (Sacramento CA)

The 6'8 power forward enforces his presence in the paint on both ends of the court, which was on display for the Lions at the Nike Summer Showdown. Camara dominates the boards on both ends of the court, gets put-backs and second chance scoring opportunities on the offensive rebound, as well as limiting opponents to single shot possessions, gets the ball out to his ball handlers, and runs the floor well in the open court to get ahead of the defense to receive passes up the court for easy buckets in transition. Camara has good back to the basket moves, uses the spin-move and drop step to get by his defender, has good touch on shots around the basket, and seals his defender off to get open out of the pick and roll action. Camara has good timing and instincts to block shots in the post and is a quality rim protector.

[player_tooltip player_id='2879174' first='Kellen' last='Garcia'] (6'6 | WF) - Folsom (CA)

The 6'6 wing/forward is an elite athlete with bounce, can score in the paint, as well as from the wing, and can space the floor from beyond the arc. Garcia is a versatile offensive weapon that has good size and touch to score in the paint, backing down smaller players or using the spin-move to evade his defender and score at the basket, as well as the handles and moves to create off the perimeter, attacking from the top of the key or off the baseline, and is effective with the jumper from the mid-range to the 3-point line off the dribble, and the bounce to play above the rim in the halfcourt setting and in transition with some dazzling dunks. Garcia is active on the glass, gets easy points off put-backs, the court vision to make quality reads off the drive and kick pass or up the court, and has the timing and athleticism to block/alter shots in the paint, with the agility to step out and alter perimeter shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='2879175' first='Will' last='Hakes'] (6'5 | WF) - Folsom (CA)

The 6'5 wing/forward is a versatile scorer, can light it up from beyond the arc, and is active on the glass. Hakes had a strong showing against Clovis West on Day 3 of the Summer Showdown, displaying his ability to impact the game playing on and off the ball. Hakes has a strong handle on the ball, the moves to create space from his defender, using the crossover, hesitation, and spin-moves to get his defender off balance, moves fluid off the ball to get to his shot spots, is accurate with the 3-ball off the bounce or the catch, and has the strength to score through contact when attacking the basket, as well as the reverse lay-up to evade shot blockers. Hakes is relentless on the boards, gets put-backs off the glass, and gets to the open spot playing off the ball to receive passes for open looks.

Dom Johnson (5'11 | PG) - Frontier (Bakersfield CA) - featured in picture

The 5'11 lead guard has his game on full display at the Nike Summer Showdown, as he would showcase 3-level scoring, play making at a high level, and tough perimeter defense. Johnson has dynamic handles, the moves to keep his defender off balance, using the crossover, behind-cross, between-cross, hesitation, and the spin-move to create space from his defender, has a good burst off the dribble to get into the paint, is a creative scorer around the basket with the Euro-step, reverse and up-and-under lay-ups, and the floater with touch to score over taller players in the paint, and is accurate with the jumper off the bounce, from the mid-range to the 3-point line. Johnson has great court vision and good decision making with the ball in his hand, makes pin-point passes to teammates cutting off the ball, off the drive and kick pass, and up the court to teammates ahead in transition. Johnson has active hands, good instincts, and quick movement to deflect passes, jump passing lanes, or poke the ball out, turning defense to offense routinely. Big senior season coming up and a hot start to Summer ball.

Jax Kelley (6'1 | CG) - Folsom (CA)

The 6'1 combo guard showed his ability to score the ball from 3-levels, find teammates open off the ball, and play with good pace and feel for the game. Kelley has solid handles, keeps the dribble alive to probe the defense, the moves to create space from his defender, using the hesitation, wrap-behind, crossover, and between-cross to get by his defender, has good body control on the pull-up mid-range jumper with accuracy, and is creative on shots around the basket, with the up-and-under or reverse lay-ups, and touch on the floater over bigs in the paint, as well as the physical build to absorb and score through contact at the rim. Kelley moves well off the ball, gets to his shot spots, is effective with the 3-ball off the catch with good lift on the jumper. Kelley is a good positional rebounder, a tough on-ball defender that forces his opponents to make mistakes with the ball, and plays with great energy.

[player_tooltip player_id='2955798' first='Spencer' last='Kubit'] (6' | SG) - Clovis West (Fresno CA)

The 6' shooting guard can light it up from beyond the arc, scores in volume, and has limitless range on the deep ball. Kubit missed nearly all of his junior season after suffering an injury that took the full season to heal and it was great to see the sharp shooter back on the court. Kubit did more than just get back on the court, and when he got hot in two of the games I saw him play, he reminded those in attendance that he is one of the best 3-point shooters in the Section. Kubit moves fluidly off the ball, gets to his shot spots and squares up his shoulders, and has a quick but effective release on the jumper, with range and accuracy on the 3-ball. Kubit has the handles to push the ball up the court, the court vision to make the right reads to open teammates, and will be one of the few seniors with experience on the roster for next year. It was great to see him back on the court.
